SAP Expands Joule Studio with Cursor and Claude to Power Enterprise AI Agent Development

Joule Studio Evolves into a Fully Managed Enterprise AI Agent Platform

SAP is repositioning the Joule Studio platform from a builder-focused tool into a fully managed environment for enterprise AI agents. Originally launched as part of SAP Build, Joule Studio required customers to run agent workloads on self-managed SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) environments. Teams had to handle provisioning, connectivity, and capacity planning themselves, creating friction for large-scale AI agent development. The new managed Joule Studio removes this burden by delivering an out-of-the-box runtime operated by SAP. Organizations can now build, deploy, and run AI agents and Joule skills with built-in audit logging, data privacy protections, and persistent long-term memory backed by SAP HANA Cloud. This end-to-end control also allows SAP to rapidly infuse new technologies into the stack without customer-side reconfiguration, positioning Joule Studio as the backbone of agentic workflow management across SAP and third-party systems.

Multi-Tool Openness: Cursor, Claude Code, and Agent Framework Integrations

A central design principle of the Joule Studio platform is openness, giving developers freedom to choose their preferred tools for AI agent development while staying within the SAP ecosystem. Cursor joins Visual Studio Code and other IDEs as a supported coding environment, and SAP highlights Claude Code integration as part of its growing support for developer-focused AI assistants. On the agent framework side, Joule Studio now supports AutoGen, LlamaIndex, and other pro-code options such as LangChain and Pydantic AI. An embedded n8n environment enables visual multi-agent orchestration, letting teams graphically design complex agentic workflows that connect SAP and non-SAP services. The Agent2Agent protocol is now bidirectional, allowing third-party agents to call Joule Agents natively within enterprise processes. Together, these integrations make Joule Studio a flexible control plane rather than a locked-in stack.

SAP Domain Models Accelerate Enterprise AI Agent Development

Beyond tooling, SAP is investing in foundation models tailored to its enterprise landscape to speed up AI agent development. Building on its earlier SAP-RPT-1 relational foundation model, the company is introducing a new family of SAP Domain Models. These models are SAP-aware and combine a second-generation SAP-ABAP-2 coding model with specialized variants for core solutions such as SAP S/4HANA and Ariba. Within Joule Studio, they work alongside SAP Knowledge Graph, SAP Signavio Process Consultant Agent, and SAP LeanIX to set rich business context for every request. When a user describes an intent in natural language, Joule Studio can automatically generate structured artifacts—from product requirement documents and technical specifications to code scaffolding and test assets—aligned with live business data and processes. This dramatically shortens the path from idea to implementation and embeds SAP semantics directly into agentic workflow management.

Intent-Based, Lifecycle-Driven Agentic Workflow Management at Scale

Joule Studio is designed to handle the full lifecycle of enterprise AI agents, from ideation to continuous operation. Intent-based development sits at the front door: business users express goals in natural language, and the platform translates them into structured solution blueprints and working previews. Developers can then refine these outputs using their preferred IDEs and frameworks without breaking alignment with SAP’s governance model. Once deployed, agents benefit from managed runtime capabilities such as persistent memory, centralized logging, and data privacy controls, eliminating the need for teams to build custom infrastructure. Embedded partnerships with Vercel enable high-performance, custom frontends, while n8n orchestration makes it easier to manage multi-agent workflows across applications and services. For enterprises looking to standardize and scale agentic AI, Joule Studio offers a unified environment for developing, deploying, and governing AI-driven workflows across the business.

Reducing Infrastructure Complexity While Promoting Developer Choice

By shifting Joule Studio to a managed model, SAP aims to reduce infrastructure complexity for organizations pushing AI initiatives into production. Teams no longer need to wire destinations via Cloud Connector, size compute resources, or maintain separate runtimes for each project. Instead, they operate within a consistent, SAP-managed environment where new security measures and technologies can be introduced centrally. At the same time, SAP’s open strategy ensures developers are not constrained to a single stack. They can choose Cursor, Visual Studio Code, or other tools; mix frameworks like LlamaIndex, AutoGen, and LangChain; and still benefit from unified governance, SAP Domain Models, and shared agent memory. With 12 months of free design-time access available through the Early Adopter Care program, organizations can experiment broadly before standardizing on Joule Studio as their core platform for enterprise AI agents and agentic workflow management.
