What Are Meta’s New Plus Subscription Plans?

Meta subscription plans, branded as “Plus” tiers for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, are optional monthly upgrades that add extra controls, personalization tools, and insights beyond the free apps while sitting alongside Meta Verified and not replacing it. Meta is rolling out Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at USD 3.99 (approx. RM19) per month, with WhatsApp Plus priced at USD 2.99 (approx. RM14) per month. These Instagram paid tiers and related offerings provide users with more detailed Story analytics, profile customization, and messaging extras that are not available in the standard experience. According to Meta’s Head of Product Naomi Gleit, the company is framing Plus as a starting point, with more features planned for the future. For users, the core question is whether these Facebook subscription features and WhatsApp premium access are worth paying for on top of the existing free versions.

Instagram Plus: Extra Story Controls and Profile Customization

Instagram Plus focuses on giving users greater control over Stories and their profile. For USD 3.99 (approx. RM19) per month, subscribers can see Story rewatch counts in aggregate, build unlimited audience lists beyond Close Friends, and extend Stories beyond the standard 24-hour limit. They can also preview a Story without appearing in the viewer list and search through Story viewers to understand who has watched their content. On the profile side, Instagram paid tiers add weekly spotlight options, animated Super Heart reactions for Stories, custom app icons, custom fonts for profile bios, and extra profile pins to highlight key posts. These tools mainly benefit people who use Stories heavily or treat their profile like a mini landing page. If you rarely post Stories or care about analytics, Instagram Plus may feel like a nice-to-have rather than a must-have upgrade.

Facebook Plus: Social Expression and Profile Tools

Facebook Plus mirrors Instagram Plus in price and intent, with a focus on social expression and profile-level controls. For USD 3.99 (approx. RM19) per month, subscribers can access advanced Story insights such as rewatch counts, create unlimited audience lists for more tailored sharing, and extend Story lifespans beyond 24 hours. They can also preview Stories before posting and search through viewer lists. A notable Facebook subscription feature is the ability to publish posts directly to a profile without those posts appearing in followers’ feeds, which is useful for archiving information or building a public profile without spamming friends. Facebook Plus also includes Super Heart animated reactions for Stories, custom app icons, custom bio fonts, and support for additional profile pins. These features mainly appeal to users who still treat Facebook as a primary social hub and want more control over how they present themselves there.

WhatsApp Plus: Messaging Personalization and Extra Pins

WhatsApp Plus takes a different approach by focusing on messaging personalization rather than stories or profiles. Priced at USD 2.99 (approx. RM14) per month, this tier introduces custom ringtones so you can distinguish key contacts or groups, plus new app themes for a more colorful chat experience. Subscribers also gain support for more pinned chats, making it easier to keep important conversations at the top of their inbox. Additional sticker packs and enhanced list customization options round out WhatsApp premium access, giving heavy chat users more ways to organize and express themselves. If you rely on WhatsApp for work or social coordination and often lose track of important threads, the expanded pinned chats alone may be worth the fee. However, users who only message occasionally may find the free version more than adequate.

Meta One, AI Tiers, and How to Decide If Plus Is Worth It

Beyond Plus, Meta is testing a broader subscription umbrella called Meta One, aimed at creators, businesses, and AI users. The Meta One Essential and Meta One Advanced plans offer verification, impersonation protection, enhanced linksheets, better feed and search placement, bold Follow buttons on Reels, automated follow invitations, links in Instagram posts and Reels, competitive insights, custom audience insights, scheduling tools, and alerts when other accounts reuse content. Separately, Meta One Plus and Meta One Premium AI plans promise deeper reasoning, expanded video and image generation, and upcoming benefits for AI glasses users, while keeping basic Meta AI free. For everyday users, the decision comes down to how much you use Stories, profiles, and messaging customization. Heavy creators and power users may see Plus as a small price for extra control; casual users might prefer to wait and see how Meta subscription plans evolve.
