Its new Hero Cloud node reconstructs a dense 3D point cloud from a single tracked camera without LiDAR or extra capture gear, using camera parallax to infer depth throughout the scene. Once generated, these dense point clouds can move cleanly into downstream tools. PFTrack now supports USD file export with per-point normals and color, not only XYZ co-ordinates, which improves how environments round-trip into USD-ready DCCs such as Maya or Houdini. FBX export for dense point clouds is also reported to be more reliable. For teams adopting Gaussian Splats, PFTrack exports COLMAP data so a tracked shot can feed directly into splat-based reconstruction pipelines. According to The Pixel Farm, most production footage provides enough parallax for Hero Cloud to reconstruct depth from a single moving camera.

Silhouette 2026 Pushes AI-Based Head, Object, and Point Tracking

Boris FX’s Silhouette 2026 expands AI tracking software for roto and paint-heavy VFX work. The new Head Track ML system in the 3D Scene node automatically generates a 3D head mesh that matches an actor and tracks it through the shot, preserving facial motion and expressions for beauty and digital makeup work. Alongside that, an AI-powered Object Tracker detects and tracks all instances of supported classes, currently faces or car license plates, and places each instance on its own layer for targeted adjustments. Point Track ML brings machine learning to Silhouette’s point tracker, making points more resilient to occlusions and off-frame movement and reducing manual cleanup. Updates to Mask ML and Matte Assist ML improve AI matte creation and propagation while adding per-object Cryptomatte export, and pipeline tools gain RPC/MPC servers plus a native Python package manager to embed Silhouette more tightly into studio pipelines.

Silo 2026.1 Delivers Faster Viewports and Modern glTF Support

Nevercenter’s Silo, known as a focused sub-d modeling tool, is sharpening its role in real-time 3D workflows. The recent 2026 cycle introduces the Silo Blender Bridge, which lets artists send a selected object from Blender to Silo, edit it there, and have changes written back via an intermediate FBX file when they hit Save. This streamlines asset iteration between the two apps, while preserving Silo’s lightweight feel. The follow-up Silo 2026.1 update (details beyond the bridge are not fully described in the source) is positioned around major performance gains, including up to a 100x viewport rendering speed boost and full glTF support, making Silo more suitable for game and WebGL pipelines that rely on compact, portable formats. Modeler for Houdini Extends Hard Surface and Organic Tooling

Modeler 26 and the 26.3 update continue to turn Houdini into a more familiar direct-modeling environment for artists used to traditional DCCs. Built as a classic polygonal and subdivision modeling toolkit, Modeler was originally strongest for hard surface work, but ongoing updates have expanded its organic and character modeling options. The PolyPen tool gains richer context-sensitive behavior, including interactive edge extrusion from existing geometry and the ability to delete entire UV islands in one step, plus the option to cut edges in screen space instead of only along local axes. New Draw Cards tools allow artists to sketch geometry cards or tubes straight in the viewport, similar to workflows in ZBrush, which is useful for quick horn- or limb-like forms.
