Siri AI and Apple Intelligence compatibility refers to how fully an iPhone, iPad, or Mac can run Apple’s new AI features, ranging from basic on-device assistance to advanced models that power richer conversation, visual understanding, and voice customization across apps and services. Some devices can use all Siri AI features, others only partial Apple Intelligence, while older models miss the new experience entirely. Siri AI is built on Apple’s AFM 3 Core and AFM 3 Core Advanced models, mixing on-device and cloud processing to answer open-ended questions, read what is on your screen, and automate tasks in your apps. Devices With Full Siri AI and Advanced Apple Intelligence
Only a short list of products support the complete Siri AI feature set and Apple’s most powerful on-device AI model. To run Siri AI with AFM 3 Core and AFM 3 Core Advanced, you need one of the following: iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, or iPhone Air; an iPad with an M4 chip or later and at least 12GB of memory; or a Mac with an M3 chip or later and at least 12GB of memory. Apple Vision Pro with an M5 chip also qualifies for full support. According to Apple, “some advanced capabilities, including the company’s most powerful on-device AI model, expressive voices and enhanced dictation features, will be limited to Apple’s most capable iPhone, iPad and Mac hardware.” These fully compatible devices unlock everything: conversational Siri, deep app integration, visual intelligence, writing tools, and detailed voice and dictation controls.
Devices With Partial Siri AI: Basic AFM 3 Core Support
Many recent Apple devices support Siri AI, but only with the basic AFM 3 Core model, so they miss expressive voice controls and the most advanced dictation. On iPhone, this group includes iPhone 17, 17e, 17 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 16, 16e, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. On iPad, compatible models are iPad Pro with M1 and later, iPad Air with M1 and later, and iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip. On Mac, supported models include MacBook Neo, MacBook Air with M1 and later, MacBook Pro with M1 and later, iMac with M1 and later, Mac mini with M1 and later, Mac Studio with M1 Max and later, and Mac Pro with M2 Ultra and later. These devices still gain conversational Siri, screen-aware help, and many Apple Intelligence tools, but without the highest-end on-device AI model.
OS Requirements, Older Devices, and Feature Gaps
Even if your hardware is recent, Siri AI needs the latest operating systems: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS versions that support Apple Intelligence. iOS 27 runs on iPhone 11 and later, the latest iPhone SE, and iPhone Air, while iPadOS 27 supports iPad Pro M4 and later, several earlier iPad Pro and iPad Air generations, iPad models with A16 and newer chips, and recent iPad mini models. Macs with Apple silicon from M1 onward also qualify for the new OS. However, ZDNET notes that “even if your device supports iOS 27, you may not be able to use Siri AI to its full extent or at all.” Older devices that stop at previous OS versions will not get Siri AI or Apple Intelligence, and even some newer models on iOS 27 only receive partial features through the basic AFM 3 Core model.
Cloud Limits, Regional Restrictions, and Upgrade Decisions
Beyond device lists, Apple is placing limits and regional rules on Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. Some cloud-based features, including advanced image generation, have daily usage caps; Apple says users who need more can increase those limits through most iCloud+ subscription plans, and iCloud+ will also add Apple Intelligence support for compatible home security cameras. Apple has also confirmed that Siri AI will not be available at launch on iPhone and iPad in the European Union, and that Siri AI and the broader Apple Intelligence set will not initially be available in China as the company works through regulatory and compliance issues. For buyers, that means you should check both hardware and location before upgrading. If you want full Siri AI, focus on iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, iPhone Air, M4 iPads with 12GB RAM or more, and M3 Macs with at least 12GB of memory.
