V-Ray for Blender Update 3 Expands to Linux and AMD GPUs
Chaos has updated V-Ray for Blender to version 7.30.20, bringing the integrated renderer to Linux alongside Windows and macOS and strengthening its position among real-time 3D tools. This edition keeps V-Ray inside Blender rather than exporting to V-Ray Standalone, so artists can interactively render in the 3D viewport while modeling and shading. A key change is support for AMD GPUs in V-Ray GPU, the hybrid GPU/CPU engine that previously focused on NVIDIA and Apple Silicon hardware. This gives Blender users far more choice when investing in GPU rendering performance. Chaos notes that Blender is now the second V-Ray edition to support AMD GPU rendering, after V-Ray for 3ds Max. Update 3 also adds a V-Ray version of Blender’s Node Wrangler, helping users manage complex shading networks, and supports parallax interiors via a Parallax texture that fakes 3D room depth behind windows without adding geometry.

LightWave 2026 Adds Physics Layout, Vehicle Rigging and New VFX Tools
LightWave Digital’s release of LightWave 2026 is a wide-ranging upgrade aimed at layout, rigging and effects-heavy work. The new Advanced Placement system introduces physics-based scene layout, letting users scatter assets, let them fall under gravity, and even auto-shatter on impact, then preview results in the RiPR path-traced viewport or bake them for offline rendering. RiPR 2 adds mesh-based lighting, tangent-space normal maps and temporal denoising using NVIDIA’s OptiX denoiser. On the animation side, MotoRig provides a semi-automated vehicle rigging workflow with parameters for mass, weight distribution and banking control, and presets for several shock absorber types. VFX artists gain a new Fracture tool for pre-breaking geometry plus tools for destruction, lighting, snow and spectral oceans, while architectural users benefit from parallax shading and an ivy generator. Redshift 2026.7 Refines Hex Tiling and Improves Real-Time Depth of Field
Redshift 2026.7 focuses on texture fidelity and real-time rendering flexibility. The hex tiling system, first introduced in Redshift 2026.6 to reduce visible pattern repeats by arranging textures on a hex grid, now supports random tile flips for even more variation. Artists can also rotate normal maps reliably via UV Context Projection nodes, which applies both to hex-based and standard square tiling workflows. On the real-time side, Redshift Live regains depth-of-field support, restoring an important cinematic tool that lagged behind the older Redshift RT engine. The new Live engine remains targeted at stability and cross-platform use, including macOS, while steadily closing feature gaps. Redshift is also now available for Revit and in beta for Archicad as part of Maxon’s Redshift for Archviz initiative, signaling a deliberate push beyond entertainment toward architectural visualization where fast, GPU-driven previews and high-quality final frames are both essential.
Cinema 4D 2026.3 Introduces a Modern UV Editor and Tighter Modeling Integration
Maxon’s Cinema 4D 2026.3 concentrates on daily workflow with a redesigned Cinema 4D UV editor that replaces the older BodyPaint 3D-based system. The new editor offers professional unwrapping, packing, organizing and full UDIM support directly inside Cinema 4D, aligning UV tasks with the app’s modeling workflow. According to Maxon, many selection and transformation tools now work in near-identical ways whether users are in 3D or UV space, making texture layout feel like an extension of modeling rather than a separate discipline. Internal handling of UV coordinates has been updated to make operations more reliable and to enable advanced features such as automatic unwrapping and relaxing, seam editing and texel density management. Motion graphics artists also benefit from new Cloner distribution modes like UV Projection, which keeps clone positions stable even when a surface is subdivided, plus a dedicated Particle Property Manager that centralizes control over particle-based effects.
