What Deezer’s AI Music Detector Does
Deezer’s free AI music detector is an online tool that scans streaming playlists to identify tracks created wholly or largely with generative AI, helping listeners understand how much of the music they hear comes from machines rather than human artists. The tool works across major services, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and SoundCloud, turning Deezer’s in-house detection system into a public playlist analysis service. Listeners connect an account, pick a platform, and can scan up to 100 playlists in one session to get a breakdown of which songs are labeled synthetic. Deezer says its system can detect music from AI generators such as Suno and Udio, and it can add more tools as training data becomes available. For users, the result is a percentage view of AI-generated music that cuts across platforms, not only Deezer’s own catalog.
How the Playlist Analysis Tool Works Across Platforms
The Deezer AI tool starts with a simple workflow: users choose a streaming service, connect their account, and launch a playlist analysis that checks tracks against Deezer’s detection models. According to Deezer, listeners can scan up to 100 playlists per run and see which tracks it believes are synthetic, with support for around 20 different streaming services and 27 interface languages. Deezer puts scanner accuracy at 99.8 percent and claims fewer than 1 in 10,000 authentic songs are incorrectly flagged. That still leaves room for occasional errors that might nudge people to remove human-made tracks. Inside Deezer’s own app, AI-identified songs are removed from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. On rival platforms, however, the detector is informational: it cannot change recommendations or labels directly, so users must decide whether to keep, delete, or investigate flagged tracks.
AI Music Flooding and Royalty Concerns
Deezer is positioning the scanner as a response to the rising volume of synthetic uploads and the pressure they put on royalty pools. The company’s latest figures estimate nearly 75,000 AI-generated tracks are delivered to its service every day, accounting for more than 44 percent of daily music intake. An earlier snapshot in January put fully AI-generated deliveries at about 60,000 tracks and roughly 39 percent of daily music delivery. Deezer also reports that 43 percent of people who join its service from competitors arrive with AI-generated music already in their playlists. As AI-assisted streaming fraud grows, synthetic music risks diluting per-stream payouts for human artists and confusing recommendation systems. The scanner turns these abstract trends into a tangible metric: listeners can see the proportion of machine-made music they are rewarding with skips, replays, and subscription time.
Industry Tensions and the Race to Detect AI Music
The launch of Deezer’s AI music detector highlights wider friction over how streaming platforms should detect AI generated music and protect creators. Deezer has already used its system internally and made the technology commercially available, including tests with the rights agency Sacem, and is now licensing it to the wider music industry. Other services are adopting different approaches. Spotify relies on labels, distributors, and partners to submit AI disclosure data through track credits, which means a missing disclosure does not prove a song is human-made. Hi-fi streamer Qobuz has started tagging 100 percent AI-generated content across both new releases and its catalog, using its own detector. Streaming services are shifting from voluntary disclosure toward detection, labeling, attribution, and rights controls, but outside Deezer’s ecosystem, the new scanner remains a separate consumer tool rather than a built-in safeguard.
