AMD Radeon Support: RDNA GPUs Get the First Wave
The first full rollout of Advanced Shader Delivery is aimed squarely at AMD Radeon users. Microsoft has now enabled the shader stutter fix for all Xbox PC app users with RDNA-based GPUs, as long as they install AMD’s Software (Adrenalin) 26.6.1 drivers or newer. That coverage spans RDNA, RDNA 2, RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5 and RDNA 4 cards, effectively every Radeon model since the RX 5000 series. For these players, shader compilation stutter should be far less visible in supported titles. The benefit is twofold: snappier first boots and more stable frame times in busy scenes. Because the feature is tied to the Xbox app, it currently applies only to games distributed through that launcher, but the partner list is already broad. For players, the impact is straightforward: fewer hitches when explosions trigger new shaders, more consistent camera pans, and far faster first loads after installing or patching a game. What’s Next for Nvidia, Intel and Other PC Launchers
The main catch is that Nvidia users, who make up most desktop gaming PCs, still need to wait for Microsoft’s shader stutter fix. TechSpot reports that Advanced Shader Delivery support for Nvidia RTX hardware is planned for later this year, and Intel has also pledged to implement the feature. In the meantime, Nvidia’s own app beta offers Auto Shader Compilation, which can preserve compiled shaders across driver updates but does not avoid the initial in-game compile. Another open question is launcher support: Advanced Shader Delivery currently works only through the Xbox PC app, while most PC gamers rely on platforms like Steam.
