PTC’s Creo 13 and Creo+ 13.3 put AI assistants at the center of everyday design work with the new Creo AI Assistant. Integrated as a chat panel inside the CAD interface, the assistant’s Advise mode answers product questions based on documentation and design practices without forcing users out of the model. A second mode, Assist, goes further by reading the active 3D model so engineers can, for example, request a bill of characteristics exported to CSV. A third mode, Automate, is in alpha and aims to apply “sophisticated design and geometry-level intelligence to understand CAD geometry and create, modify, or optimize designs.” Together, these Creo 13 AI features push design simulation AI from simple help bots toward contextual tools that understand geometry, intent and downstream requirements.

Productivity, Assemblies and Multi-Axis: Automating the Grind
While the AI headlines draw attention, vendors are also tightening traditional tools to reduce manual work in complex assemblies and multi-axis operations. Creo 13 improves user productivity with expanded feature presets and updates to surfacing, sketcher, sheet metal, welding and multi-body tools, all of which cut the clicks needed for standard features. For distributed teams, assembly management gains up to 70% faster assembly loading from Windchill over wide-area networks, a noticeable change when working with large CAD assemblies across sites. Manufacturing sees expanded 5-axis toolpath options and streamlined toolpath setup, plus additional mold design options. Composite workflows gain faster transition calculations and copy-and-paste reuse of laminate intent, while harness and cable routing updates support early electrical-mechanical coordination. These changes show how AI assistants and focused feature refinements can work together to shrink setup time and reduce error-prone manual edits.
An Ecosystem Moving Up the AI Ladder
PTC is not alone in this shift. IronCAD’s latest release adds its own product support chatbot, an AI Design Assistant that promises manufacturable 3D assemblies from natural language prompts, and an AI Drawing Assistant aimed at automating documentation steps. Alongside these tools, Design and Simulation Week sessions track how companies across the ecosystem are climbing what Engineering.com calls the “AI ladder,” from basic assistance to agent-like workflows that tie design, review and simulation together. At the same time, PTC positions Creo 13 within a broader strategy that uses product data across design, manufacturing and other functions to manage complexity and compliance.
