What Apple Intelligence and Siri AI Are
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s next-generation artificial intelligence platform that blends on-device and cloud models to create personalised, context-aware features while keeping user data private across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Apple devices. At WWDC26, Apple framed this as its most ambitious software update yet, with Apple Foundation Models at the core and a fully redesigned Siri AI on top. Siri AI is no longer a simple voice assistant; it combines conversational intelligence, personal context from your emails, messages, and photos, and awareness of what is on your screen so it can act inside apps. According to Apple, these models run both locally and via Private Cloud Compute, meaning you get smarter iOS AI capabilities without giving up control of your information. A dedicated Siri app will also let you revisit conversations and keep context synced across devices.

Key Apple Intelligence Features and Performance Gains
Apple Intelligence features are being built directly into core apps such as Photos, Safari, Mail, Messages, Calendar, Home, and Shortcuts, turning everyday tasks into AI-assisted workflows. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, so you can fix composition and adjust perspective after the shot, along with smarter object removal and scene restoration. Safari can automatically organise tabs into topic-based groups and monitor pages for product restocks or price drops, while a new Notify Me option lets you track specific sites. Apple’s foundation models also power creative tools like Image Playground for generating photorealistic images from text prompts. Performance is a major part of the WWDC26 announcements: Apple says apps launch up to 30% faster on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster, making AI-heavy features feel responsive instead of sluggish.

Inside the Siri AI Redesign
The Siri AI redesign turns Siri into a system-wide control layer that understands your content, context, and intent. You can ask it to pull details from emails, messages, photos, and documents, then use that information to perform actions in different apps. Onscreen awareness means Siri AI can answer questions about whatever you are viewing, from a web page in Safari to an image in Photos, and then follow up with contextual commands. It also has broad web knowledge for up-to-date answers when information is not on your device. Conversation history syncs through iCloud and lives in a dedicated Siri app, so you can pick up past threads across devices. For now, Apple Intelligence supports English, Vietnamese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, which shapes where the most advanced Siri AI experiences will be available first.

Stronger Parental Controls and Child Safety Features
Alongside its iOS AI capabilities, Apple is rolling out one of its most extensive child safety updates to date. The redesigned Screen Time experience gives parents a clearer overview of device use and lets them adjust limits with a single tap. The Child Account system remains the backbone, adding easier setup of age-appropriate filters, media restrictions, and App Store protections. Parents can pick which apps are allowed to start with and expand access over time, while Ask to Browse requires approval before children visit new websites in Safari. Communication controls now let parents approve contacts before kids use Messages, FaceTime, or Phone, and Communication Safety will intervene on violent or graphic content, not only nudity. Time Allowances bring daily limits for Entertainment, Social Media, and Gaming, backed by age-based recommendations and new scheduling tools for school and family time.
Supported Devices and When You’ll Get the Update
The Apple Intelligence rollout is tied to newer hardware and the next wave of platform releases, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. Developer betas arrive first, with general users expected to see the new features from Q3 2026. On the iPhone side, you will need an iPhone 16 model or later, or one of the current high-end devices: iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. On iPad, Apple Intelligence requires an M1 chip or newer, or the iPad mini with the A17 Pro. Mac users need an M1-based machine or later, including the new MacBook Neo running the A18 Pro. Apple Watch support starts with Series 9, Ultra 2, and the SE 3 when paired with a compatible iPhone, and Apple Vision Pro is also included.
