What the Apple AI Settlement Is About
Apple has agreed to a USD 250 million (approx. RM1,150,000,000) Apple AI settlement to resolve an AI feature lawsuit linked to the launch of its newer phones. The case centers on Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI tools Apple heavily promoted when unveiling the iPhone 16 line and select iPhone 15 models. Marketing highlighted powerful new abilities like an enhanced Siri acting as an intelligent agent, but many of those AI capabilities were not ready when the devices reached customers. According to the settlement, Apple is accused of using misleading advertising that emphasized advanced Apple Intelligence features which did not ship at launch and only began arriving later with a software update. As part of the resolution, Apple compensation is expected to be paid out to eligible buyers of certain iPhone models, with estimated payouts between USD 25 (approx. RM115) and USD 95 (approx. RM435) per qualifying device.
Which iPhone Models and Features Are Covered
Eligibility for an iPhone owner claim is tied to both the model you bought and when you bought it. Customers who purchased one of the following devices between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 may qualify: iPhone 16, iPhone 16E, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are included because they have the processor and memory necessary to run Apple Intelligence features. The lawsuit focuses on delayed or missing Apple Intelligence capabilities, particularly the more advanced AI functions tied to Siri that were not available at launch. Some AI tools such as Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji and Clean Up did arrive relatively soon after release, but they were not the main features highlighted in Apple’s original marketing that prompted many customers to upgrade.
How and When to File Your iPhone Owner Claim
For now, you do not need to submit anything to pursue Apple compensation. Under the settlement terms, Apple will first compile a list of potentially eligible customers and share it with an independent settlement administrator. Once that data is verified, a company called Verita will send email and postal notices to those customers. Each notice will direct you to a dedicated settlement website where you can file your iPhone owner claim. That website is not yet live, so any site currently claiming to handle claims should be treated with caution. When you receive your official notice, you will have 90 days from the date of that notice to complete your claim online. Be sure to keep that email or letter, as it will likely contain a unique ID or link needed to start your submission and confirm your eligibility details.
What Information and Documents You May Need
While the settlement website is not yet available, you can prepare now by gathering basic proof that you bought a qualifying iPhone. Start by locating your purchase receipt or invoice showing the model of your device and the purchase date, especially if you bought between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. Digital receipts from online orders or carrier purchases may also be accepted, as long as they clearly identify your phone model. You may also be asked to confirm ownership details, such as your full name, email address, postal address and possibly the phone’s serial number or other device identifiers. Because Apple plans to provide a list of eligible customers, some information may already be pre-filled when you log into the settlement site. Still, having your documentation ready will help you correct any errors and complete the claim quickly within the 90-day deadline after your notice arrives.
Settlement Timeline: When to Expect Your Payment
The Apple AI settlement follows a set timeline before payments reach eligible iPhone owners. A court hearing to approve the settlement is scheduled for June 17, 2026. If approval is granted, Apple will have five days to supply customer information to the settlement administrator. Once that data is verified, a 45-day notice period begins, during which Verita will contact eligible customers by email and mail with instructions on how to claim. After notices go out and claims, exclusions and objections are processed, approved payments must be issued within a 60-calendar-day window. Based on this schedule and potential court-related delays or extensions, the first checks or electronic deposits are expected to arrive sometime after September 2026. To avoid missing out, watch your email and physical mailbox around that time and submit your claim promptly once your notice and settlement website link arrive.
