The largest jump is in staying current: the system reaches 75.1 percent on freshness tests, compared with 52.2 percent last year and 9.4 percent in 2024. They can also delete individual memories, reset all memory, switch memory off, or choose Temporary Chat when they do not want a session to influence future responses. OpenAI distinguishes between saved memories and general chat history so that not every detail becomes permanent context. On the infrastructure side, the company says compute needed to serve dreaming has fallen by about five times, which makes wider rollout practical instead of a niche add-on. If this trend continues, AI conversation memory could become a default expectation rather than a premium extra, and the leading systems will be those that stay useful without over-remembering or eroding user trust.
