Beijing Auto Show 2023: A Stage for Next-Generation Mobility

The Beijing Auto Show 2023 reaffirmed its status as a bellwether for global automotive innovations, bringing together legacy carmakers, fast-rising brands, and cutting-edge tech suppliers. Against a backdrop of accelerating electrification and digitalisation, the show’s auto show highlights ranged from advanced batteries and intelligent cabins to autonomous mobility concepts such as Geely’s Eva Cab Robotaxi. New energy vehicles (NEVs) dominated the conversation, with exhibitors focusing on how to reduce range anxiety, improve charging convenience, and enhance connected experiences. At the same time, brands used the event to celebrate major commercial milestones, including OMODA & JAECOO’s rapid climb in global sales. The show underscored how China’s automotive ecosystem is evolving from manufacturing powerhouse to innovation lab, with technologies debuted in Beijing increasingly shaping expectations in markets worldwide, from Europe to the Middle East.

Geely Eva Cab Robotaxi: Autonomous Mobility Enters the Mainstream

Among the most talked-about exhibits was the Geely Eva Cab Robotaxi, highlighting how autonomous driving is moving from experimental pilot to commercial reality. Positioned as a purpose-built robotaxi, Eva Cab showcases a future where urban mobility is largely on-demand, shared, and driverless. Its debut at the Beijing Auto Show 2023 reflects a broader trend: OEMs are integrating advanced sensors, AI-based perception, and connected infrastructure into production-ready platforms rather than concept-only vehicles. While regulatory frameworks and large-scale deployments are still evolving, Eva Cab signals Geely’s ambition to compete in the robotaxi space and to redefine fleet operations, from maintenance to passenger experience. Paired with rapid progress in electrification and smart cabins across the show floor, Eva Cab serves as a clear indicator that autonomous ride-hailing is becoming a central pillar of many automakers’ long-term strategies.

OMODA & JAECOO Hit 1 Million Global Sales and Unveil New Lineup

OMODA & JAECOO used the Beijing Auto Show to announce a major milestone: cumulative global sales surpassing 1 million units in just three years. This achievement positions the brand among the fastest-growing automotive players globally and anchors its ambition to reach 1 million annual sales by 2027. To reinforce that trajectory, the company presented the OMODA 4 and OMODA 7, reflecting a youth-focused, technology-driven identity. OMODA 7 acts as a design flagship, featuring bold styling and a powertrain built around the Super Hybrid System (SHS) for a balance of performance and efficiency. OMODA 4 targets tech-savvy urban drivers with a futuristic “cyber-mecha” design and an AI Cabin that supports intelligent voice interaction, emotional recognition, and connected infotainment. Together, these models underline how OMODA & JAECOO align design, user research, and advanced technology to capture demand in markets from China to the UAE.

Battery Breakthroughs: REPT BATTERO’s Ultra-Fast Charging and High-Density Cells

Electrification was a central theme at the Beijing Auto Show 2023, with REPT BATTERO standing out for its full-scenario power battery solutions for new energy vehicles. The company unveiled its Wending Flash Charging Technology, based on the Wending 3.0 structure, capable of charging a battery from 10% to 80% state of charge in under six minutes while operating reliably from -40℃ to +70℃. Wending batteries have already been installed in more than 350,000 NEVs with over 20 million units shipped and a reported zero-safety-accident record. REPT BATTERO also introduced a new solid-liquid hybrid platform covering manganese-based and high-nickel systems. The manganese-based cells deliver over 80% capacity retention at -40℃ and more than 4,000 charge cycles, while high-nickel variants reach 280–400 Wh/kg, serving both mainstream and high-end long-range models. These advances aim to ease charging anxiety and extend range without compromising safety.

Commercial NEVs and Emerging Trends in Automotive Technology

Beyond passenger vehicles, the Beijing Auto Show 2023 highlighted how new energy technologies are reshaping commercial fleets. REPT BATTERO presented a 350 kWh laminated clusterless battery for engineering vehicles such as mixers and short-haul dump trucks, cutting system components to improve reliability and operating economics. For new energy mining vehicles, its 2C ultra-fast charging battery reduces single charging time to about 30 minutes, boosting transportation capacity by 11.4% and lowering procurement costs for fleets by 11%. When viewed alongside advances like Geely’s Eva Cab Robotaxi and the intelligent AI Cabin features in OMODA’s latest models, clear trends emerge: rapid charging, user-centric digital experiences, autonomous driving, and tailored solutions for specific scenarios. Collectively, these developments show how the Beijing Auto Show 2023 served as a snapshot of the industry’s transition toward electrified, intelligent, and highly adaptive mobility ecosystems.
