A Living Garden: The Story Behind Jisoo’s Met Gala Look

When Jisoo stepped onto the Met Gala steps for the first time, her entire look was conceived as a living garden. Working closely with designer Jonathan Anderson, the BLACKPINK singer and Dior global ambassador co-created a custom strapless, backless Dior column gown in gazar, fully embroidered with a garden scene. Three-dimensional floral bouquets appeared to bloom from the fabric, with a coordinating headpiece covered in fabric flower embroidery completing the sculptural effect. The theme, “Fashion is Art,” guided long conversations between Jisoo and Anderson as they refined every detail, turning the dress into a walking canvas. Makeup artist Pony then extended this narrative onto Jisoo’s face using only Dior Beauty products. The goal was not to compete with the elaborate florals, but to translate the garden motif into a soft, flushed beauty look that felt like a natural extension of the gown.

Complexion: Dewy Skin as a Soft Canvas

To let the Met Gala makeup look echo the gown’s garden scene, Pony began with a luminous, perfected base. She reached for a 24-hour wear foundation that offers buildable medium-to-high coverage with a natural glow finish, infused with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptide to improve bare-skin quality over time. Jisoo wore shade 1N for an even, second-skin effect. A matching full-coverage concealer in shade 1N brightened under the eyes and neutralized redness, delivering 24-hour hydration and transfer-proof wear while remaining virtually undetectable on camera. To bring the garden inspired flush to life, Pony layered a long-wearing powder blush in 475 Rose Caprice along the cheeks, building colour gradually for a soft bloom rather than a harsh stripe. Finally, a multi-use highlighter palette in 004 Rose Gold Glow added pearlescent light to the high points, giving Jisoo’s complexion a fresh, dew-dropped radiance.

Eyes: Rosy Petals with Subtle Definition

Jisoo’s eyes were designed to mirror the rosy tones embroidered across her Dior gown, creating a seamless celebrity makeup breakdown from dress to makeup. Pony used two Dior eyeshadow palettes to sculpt the look: 429 Toile de Jouy and 743 Rose Tulle. Soft pink and neutral shades were blended across the lids to create a warm, petal-like wash of colour, keeping the intensity focused near the lash line and diffusing upward for a hazy finish. A multi-use eyeshadow stick in 006 Pearl Star added a luminous highlight at the inner corners and along the centre of the lid, enhancing the dewy effect. For definition, Pony applied a waterproof liquid eyeliner in 096 Satin Black close to the lashes, keeping the line fine and precise. Dior’s refillable mascara in 090 Black then fanned and lengthened the lashes, giving Jisoo fluttery volume without overpowering the delicate rose tones.

Cheeks, Lips, and Scent: Finishing the Garden-Inspired Flush

The heart of Jisoo’s Met Gala makeup look was the garden inspired flush that tied her beauty directly to the dress. After setting the base, Pony intensified the blush in 475 Rose Caprice on the apples of the cheeks and diffused it toward the temples, echoing the soft pinks of the gown’s floral embroidery. Touches from the 004 Rose Gold Glow palette were added over the blush and along the tops of the cheekbones so the skin seemed to bloom under the lights. On the lips, Dior’s refillable lip gloss stick in 405 Rosy Dior delivered a sheer, glossy rose tint with a mirror-like shine, keeping the focus on freshness rather than heavy pigment. To complete the transformation, a fruity floral eau de parfum with Damascena rose essence, bright lychee, and caramelized nuances wrapped Jisoo in a scent that matched her visual garden, uniting fashion, makeup, and fragrance in one cohesive story.
