Those promos used high-contrast lighting and reflections that implied a ring of light tracing the camera module’s edge, an effect that would have looked spectacular and enabled more dynamic notification patterns. Later analysis points out that “we can see how the light might have swished around the edge,” hinting at animated rings and progress-like effects that never materialized. Instead, HiLight ended up hidden within the camera bar and, in some interpretations, replacing more practical hardware such as the previous temperature sensor. Compared with what other brands have achieved using rear lights and micro‑screens, Google’s approach feels conservative. Where HiLight Should Go Next
