What Android 17 Eligibility Means for Realme and Samsung Users

Realme UI 8.0 (Android 17): Eligible Devices and What Misses Out
Realme UI 8.0 devices form a broad slice of the brand’s recent portfolio, even though Realme has not yet published an official Android 17 device list. Based on its current policy, the Realme GT 8 Pro, GT 7 line (including GT 7 Pro, GT 7 Pro Racing and GT 7T), GT 6 series and GT 5 Pro are all Android 17 update eligible. The Realme 16, 16 Pro, 16 Pro+, 16T and most of the 15 and 14 number-series variants also qualify, along with the P4 and P3 families, several C-series models (like C85 and C75 lines), and Narzo and Note-branded phones listed in recent coverage. Older GT flagships and early C-series budget devices fall outside the support window, so their last major version stops before Realme UI 8.0. For owners of those phones, the only way to see Android 17 features will be buying newer hardware.
Samsung One UI 9 (Android 17): Phones, Foldables and Rollout Timing
Samsung One UI 9 phones span several generations, but the cutoff is clear: Galaxy S23 series and newer on the flagship side. One UI 9, built on Android 17, began beta testing on May 13, 2026 for the Galaxy S26 range, and reports suggest a stable release tied to an Unpacked event around July 22, 2026. That build is expected to ship on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 at launch. According to TechCabal, the rollout should then reach the S26, S25, S24 and S23 families, followed by recent Z Fold and Z Flip generations, A-series, M-series, F-series and Galaxy Tab models through late 2026 into early 2027. Samsung notes that One UI 9 will arrive on “upcoming Galaxy flagship devices later this year,” confirming its focus on newer premium hardware first.
Devices Left Behind: How Long-Term Support Differs
Both brands leave significant groups of users without Android 17. On Samsung’s side, the Galaxy S22 family and Galaxy S21 FE stop at One UI 8.5, based on Android 16, because they were sold under a four-year OS promise that is now complete. The Galaxy S23 line becomes the oldest S-series still Android 17 update eligible, and for it One UI 9 is the fourth and final major upgrade. Realme’s unofficial list shows a similar pattern: current GT, number, P, C, Narzo and Note lines appear, while earlier generations drop off, including aging flagships that once sat at the top of the range. Millions of users on these older phones will miss out on floating app bubbles, adaptive screen sizing and the latest security layers, and must weigh living with a frozen software version against upgrading to a newer device.
Choosing Between Waiting, Updating and Upgrading
For most people, the Android 17 device list is less about brand loyalty and more about timing and value. If you own a recent Realme GT, number-series, P, C, Narzo or Note phone that appears on Realme UI 8.0 devices lists, holding on until the update arrives makes sense. Samsung users with Galaxy S26 to S23 models, recent Z Fold or Z Flip foldables, or newer A-series handsets can reasonably plan around the expected One UI 9 rollout from mid-2026 into early 2027. Owners of Realme phones outside the published lists, or Samsung devices like the S22 series stuck on Android 16, need to decide whether security patches and current features are enough. Checking eligibility before you upgrade helps you avoid buying a phone that is already near the end of its software life.
