What Supernatural’s Second Life Means for VR Fitness Fans

Supernatural is a subscription-based VR fitness platform that combines game-like workouts, real human coaches and licensed music into guided exercise sessions you follow through a virtual reality headset. Meta’s recent cuts to its VR division included ending new content for the Supernatural VR fitness app, raising fears that one of the most popular Quest workout experiences would soon vanish. Instead, the app has been given a second life through a new independent company called Supernatural Health, which plans to launch a successor VR workout app independent from Meta on the Quest platform this fall. For users, this transition means their daily routines, favorite coaches and established VR exercise habits can continue without being disrupted by the Meta Supernatural shutdown, signaling that VR fitness apps can survive even when big tech owners step away.

From Meta Shutdown Threat to Independent Supernatural Health

Meta’s downsizing of its VR and metaverse efforts led to layoffs, shuttered studios and a decision to stop adding new workouts and songs to Supernatural. The existing Supernatural VR fitness app still runs for now, but it will be fully sunset on December 3, ending both the app and existing subscriptions on that date. To avoid a hard stop for users, a new company named Supernatural Health is launching a successor app on Meta Quest this fall with the same core concept and brand. According to Engadget, the coaches are all returning, preserving what many fans considered the heart of the experience. This pivot rescues a beloved VR fitness platform from disappearing with Meta’s support cuts and shows that a VR workout app independent from a platform owner can step in to keep a loyal community active and engaged.

What Changes for Users: Subscriptions, Migration and Content

For current subscribers, the biggest changes are timing and price. The original app will keep running without new content until December 3, when users must migrate to the new Supernatural Health app to continue. The new service raises annual subscriptions from USD 100 (approx. RM460) to USD 180 (approx. RM828), and monthly plans from USD 10 (approx. RM46) to USD 20 (approx. RM92). CNET notes, “The subscription cost is going up, though, to USD 180 a year or USD 20 a month as opposed to the USD 100 a year/USD 10 a month cost it’s been under Meta.” In return, Supernatural Health promises ongoing workouts, songs and new features shaped by community feedback. For VR fitness enthusiasts, this ensures that established training habits, daily streaks and coach relationships can move to the new platform rather than ending with the Meta Supernatural shutdown.

Community, Data and the Future Beyond Big Tech Ownership

Supernatural’s rescue as an independent VR workout app independent of Meta signals a wider shift: VR fitness platforms may no longer need to be owned by hardware makers to survive. CNET’s reviewer described feeling “wrecked” when Meta stopped supporting the app, and the lively Facebook community echoed that concern, underlining how much users value continuity. The new company says the same coaches and overall Supernatural experience will continue, preserving the social fabric and workout patterns people have built over years. While details on how historical workout data and achievements will transfer are still limited, the stated goal is to keep the experience familiar while adding new features. Looking ahead, independence could open the door to other headsets, as already seen with competitors like FitXR and Les Mills BodyCombat, even though Supernatural Health has not yet confirmed any platforms beyond Quest.
