To deliver these reliably, Google is demanding far higher specs and stricter stability standards than typical apps. Understanding this split—basic Gemini in Chrome versus the full Gemini Intelligence ecosystem—helps you know which features you can realistically expect and whether your current Android is living on borrowed time for future AI upgrades.

Step 1: Check Your RAM and Android Version

Start by confirming whether you can at least run Gemini in Chrome, since that’s the earliest AI feature most users will see. Google’s rollout notes specify that Gemini in Chrome on Android needs a minimum of 4GB of RAM and supports operating systems as far back as Android 12. If your phone has less than 4GB of RAM, you won’t receive this particular update, even if you’re on a recent OS. To check your Android RAM requirements, open your device settings and look for memory or “About phone” details that list total RAM. Then verify your Android version, usually under Software Information. Meeting these Gemini minimum specs doesn’t guarantee access to the full Gemini Intelligence suite, but it’s a useful first filter. There is also a separate group of phones limited to Gemini Nano v2, which currently won’t support Gemini Intelligence. That list includes well-known devices like the Pixel 9 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, OnePlus 13, and several other recent flagships. Because this documentation is based on API support rather than final software builds, your device’s status may change before the wider rollout. Still, if your phone only supports Nano v2 today, you should temper expectations about getting full Gemini Intelligence features later.

The broader Gemini Intelligence rollout is expected to ramp up in the coming years, but strict Gemini minimum specs mean not every Android will join the party. If your device passes the 4GB RAM and Android 12 thresholds, you can look forward to Gemini in Chrome and some AI-powered conveniences. To enjoy the deeper ecosystem—personalized automation, richer Autofill, and context-aware assistance—you’ll likely need a device that meets the 12GB RAM requirement, ships with a flagship processor, and is explicitly built around AI Core and Gemini Nano v3. If you’re planning an upgrade, pay close attention to manufacturers’ promises about long-term updates and on-device AI capabilities, not just camera and battery specs. Even if your current phone stays usable for everyday tasks, knowing these requirements now helps you decide whether to hold out, switch brands, or choose a model positioned as “Gemini Intelligence ready.”
