Enterprise AI agents are software systems that can act on behalf of employees or business units, connecting to company data, tools and workflows to automate tasks, make recommendations and coordinate work across teams under defined security and governance controls. As consulting and technology firms scale these agents, the focus is shifting from small experiments to full workforce integration. KPMG and Atos are among the first large professional services and IT services organizations to embed agentic AI deployment into everyday work using secure AI copilots. Their strategies center on Microsoft Agent 365 as a control plane and Microsoft 365 Copilot as the user-facing layer for knowledge work. This combination allows enterprises to manage thousands of agents alongside human users, giving IT teams clear visibility into who or what is taking action on sensitive systems, and under which rules.
KPMG Bets on Microsoft Agent 365 and Copilot for Trusted Scale
KPMG is expanding its relationship with Microsoft by adopting Microsoft Agent 365 to manage how AI agents are deployed, monitored and updated across its global organization. The firm is pairing this with a broader rollout of Microsoft 365 Copilot across more than 276,000 professionals, turning secure AI copilots into a standard part of daily work across audit, tax and advisory. According to KPMG, this rollout is designed to help clients move from isolated AI prototypes to trusted enterprise AI agents that can operate across systems, data and business processes. Agent 365 enhances KPMG’s Workbench ecosystem with centralized governance, including ownership, lifecycle management and compliance controls. The firm’s Trusted AI framework, layered on top of Microsoft Agent 365, aims to give clients confidence that AI agents will respect data protections, protect intellectual property and remain accountable as they are scaled into core operating models.
Atos Rolls Out Agentic AI Across the Entire Workforce
Atos is expanding its strategic collaboration with Microsoft through a workforce-wide deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot for 56,000 employees in 54 countries. Built on Microsoft 365 E7, the deployment unifies Microsoft 365 E5, Copilot and Microsoft Agent 365, along with Entra Suite, Defender, Intune and Purview to create a single, secure platform for enterprise AI agents. A key goal is to operate 19,000 AI agents under consistent governance, covering agents acting for individual users, agents with their own credentials, and agents from the wider Atos ecosystem. Atos is also using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry to design, build and operate agents for internal IT, business functions and client solutions. These tools form part of Atos’ Sovereign Agentic AI studios, which aim to bring agentic AI deployment safely into production, particularly for clients in regulated industries that must prove strict control over automated operations.
Security, Governance and the New Role of Consulting Firms
Both KPMG and Atos frame agentic AI deployment as a security and governance challenge as much as a productivity opportunity. Microsoft Agent 365 is positioned as the enterprise AI control plane, giving organizations a single view of AI agents, consistent admin workflows, and shared security policies across identity, access, devices and data. For clients such as Integra LifeSciences and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, KPMG is helping to build “agent-powered operating models” that tie AI agents to measurable business results while enforcing clear accountability. Atos, meanwhile, is using its own transformation as a reference model to support clients in rolling out enterprise AI agents in complex, regulated environments. As secure AI copilots and AI agents become standard workplace tools, large consulting and IT services firms are positioning themselves as deployment partners, combining industry knowledge with technical governance to expand the client ecosystem for enterprise AI agents.
