Vivo X Fold 6 Features: Parallel Mode and a More Capable Atomic Workbench
Vivo’s X Fold 6 is built around an 8-inch inner display and 6.51-inch cover screen, and its software is now catching up to that canvas. OriginOS 6 Fold adds Parallel Mode, a foldable multitasking mode that can keep up to four apps active, windowed, and visible on a single screen at once. Vivo says it has rebuilt the framework so that “four apps can operate concurrently without compromising performance or smoothness,” turning the large inner panel into more of a desktop-style workspace than a stretched phone. The upgraded Atomic Workbench turns this into a productivity hub: users can unlock four apps at once for tasks like booking tickets or comparing prices, switch between serial and parallel layouts, and even run four AI assistants in parallel for different tasks, all while maintaining foreground activity.

Atomic Workbench and PC Integration: Foldables as Portable Desktops
The enhanced Atomic Workbench on the Vivo X Fold 6 shows how foldable software optimization is shifting toward work-centric use. Beyond arranging four app windows, the workbench now ties into Vivo’s wider ecosystem. Through the Xiao V Claw PC version inside Vivo’s office suite, users can issue commands from the phone and have a Windows or Mac computer perform the tasks, turning the foldable into a control panel for desktop workflows. The PC client ships with more than 30 open-source skills and can be configured with additional ones, so the AI assistant becomes more tailored over time. Combined with an AI meeting assistant upgrade, the X Fold 6 positions its wide inner display as a place where meetings, research, and cross-device control all coexist, rather than serving mainly as a media screen.
Xiaomi’s Widescreen Foldable Design Hints at a New Form Factor Standard
While Vivo refines its software, Xiaomi appears ready to change the physical canvas that software runs on. HyperOS leaks point to a new Xiaomi foldable that abandons the tall, narrow shape of earlier models in favor of a widescreen foldable design. Enthusiasts have even overlaid the leaked UI onto renders of Huawei’s Pura X Max, and the alignment suggests Xiaomi is targeting a similar wide aspect ratio. Early reports mention a triple-camera setup co-developed with Leica and Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset, plus improvements to multitasking in HyperOS and a refined hinge. According to Gizmochina, the device is internally referred to as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, Xiaomi 18 Fold, or Xiaomi 17 Fold, and current findings indicate development has progressed to an advanced stage with a launch window hinted, though not confirmed, for later in the year.
Why Wider Screens Demand Better Foldable Multitasking Mode
As foldables move toward wider inner displays, traditional phone-first layouts start to feel wasteful. A widescreen foldable design invites side-by-side apps, overlapping windows, and persistent toolbars, and that is driving renewed focus on foldable software optimization. Vivo’s Parallel Mode on the X Fold 6 is one answer, turning the 8-inch panel into a four-pane workspace where each app holds equal priority. Xiaomi, meanwhile, is adapting HyperOS multitasking for a broader canvas on its next foldable, signaling that window management, app continuity, and background activity are now key selling points.
