Apple is preparing what insiders describe as its most ambitious iPhone software update in years, and at the centre is a sweeping iOS 27 Siri redesign. The assistant is being rebuilt from a traditional voice-only tool into an always-on AI chatbot assistant that feels more like an intelligent companion than a simple query responder. According to early reports, Siri will adopt a chatbot-style interface that mirrors modern conversational apps, supporting longer, multi-step interactions rather than one-off commands. This overhaul is intended to make Siri more persistent and context-aware, with deeper hooks into personal data such as calendars, notes, and other apps so it can take actions on the user’s behalf. Combined with broader UI refreshes across the system, the new Siri experience signals a strategic shift toward AI-first design ahead of its full unveiling at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8.
Dynamic Island Becomes Siri’s New Home
In iOS 27, Dynamic Island Siri integration turns the previously decorative pill at the top of the display into the assistant’s primary stage. When users invoke Siri via the wake word or power button, a large pill-shaped animation expands in the Dynamic Island, visually anchoring the interaction without taking over the entire screen. Swiping down from the top centre reveals a new “Search or Ask” bar embedded into Dynamic Island, equipped with a microphone for voice queries and a simple tap target to switch between Siri and third-party AI options such as ChatGPT or Gemini. Results appear in a transparent card that users can pull down into a full chatbot conversation, making Siri feel like a persistent overlay rather than an intrusive pop-up. This design moves core assistant functions into a discreet but always-present area, aligning visual identity and functionality across the iPhone software update.
From Voice Tool to Full AI Chatbot Assistant
Beyond its new visual home, Siri’s behaviour is evolving into something closer to a modern AI chatbot assistant. Once a simple voice tool, Siri is now described as an always-on agent capable of accessing personal information and orchestrating actions across multiple apps. The new chatbot mode, accessible by swiping down on Siri’s results card, resembles a text message thread with in-line mini app cards. These cards can surface timely context such as upcoming calendar appointments, current weather, or relevant notes directly inside the conversation. iOS 27 also weaves Siri into the Camera’s Visual Intelligence capabilities, allowing users to point the camera at a plant or foreign-language sign and ask contextual questions in real time. Together, these changes push Siri beyond scripted responses, moving it toward a more flexible, conversational problem-solver that can understand context, reference on-device data, and chain actions within a single ongoing interaction.
AI Search, Standalone App, and System-Wide Overhaul
Apple is also infusing Siri with enhanced AI search capabilities in iOS 27. The assistant will be able to perform open web searches that return detailed answers, bulleted summaries, and rich image results for general knowledge queries, narrowing the gap with leading AI search tools. A new standalone Siri app is expected to complement system-wide access, organizing past conversations into tall rounded cards with a dedicated search bar and an “Ask Siri” prompt field that supports text, voice, document uploads, and images.
