The Hammer Pro U, in contrast, is a fully CNC-machined metal Android handheld, aimed at players who want deeper emulator options, gyroscope support, and broader app compatibility. Together, these handhelds mark TrimUI’s move from niche retro toys toward more feature-complete pocket systems that can compete with other modern retro handheld devices.
Specs and Design: Same Screen, Two Very Different Cores
Both the TrimUI Brick Pro and Hammer Pro U are built around a 3.95-inch IPS display with a 1024 x 768 resolution, 4:3 aspect ratio, 60Hz refresh rate, and roughly 324 PPI, paired with dual hall-effect joysticks and ALPS action buttons. Under the shell, however, their missions diverge. The Brick Pro uses an Allwinner A133 Plus CPU with a PowerVR GE8300 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD, and runs Linux on ARM for focused retro handheld gaming. The Hammer Pro U moves to a 2.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 with Adreno A21 graphics, 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, also expandable. According to RetroDodo, this Android-based Hammer Pro U is TrimUI’s “most powerful device on the market,” housed in a metal CNC body with USB-C video output and a 6-axis gyroscope for motion-aware titles.

Linux vs Android: Two OS Paths for Retro Fans
The Brick Pro leans into TrimUI’s Linux ecosystem, which matters to enthusiasts who like clean UIs, quick boot times, and custom firmware. Linux on the A133 Plus is tuned for classic systems, with the same general performance ceiling as the earlier Brick line, but with higher resolution and dual sticks to better handle 3D consoles and more complex control schemes. The Hammer Pro U, meanwhile, is TrimUI’s first Android handheld, opening the door to mainstream emulators, broader front-ends, and general apps. Its Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 and 6GB RAM should be able to push beyond PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, and Dreamcast, edging into some PlayStation 2 territory depending on settings and titles. Both devices benefit from dual analog sticks and digital triggers, making them more suitable for modern game streaming services and contemporary indie titles than TrimUI’s earlier catalog. With pre-orders live and promotions tied to upcoming sales events, TrimUI is signaling that it wants a serious share of the modern retro handheld market.
Dual Sticks and Modern Compatibility: Beyond Pure Nostalgia
Previous TrimUI devices leaned heavily on nostalgia, but the Brick Pro and Hammer Pro U move the line toward hybrid use. Dual hall-effect analog sticks unlock more precise control in 3D emulators and make the devices viable for modern-style games that demand twin-stick input, from shooters to action RPGs. On Linux, this means better handling of late-90s and early-2000s consoles where analog movement is standard, without the drift risks of cheaper potentiometer sticks.
