The Nothing Phone 4b is a mid-range smartphone that combines a large 5,200mAh or 6,000mAh battery, Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chip, 120Hz OLED display and a distinctive Glyph Bar design, and it is promoted as a durable, practical device whose long-lasting battery life is meant to reassure buyers that they are getting a phone built to last.
Nothing is clear about the headline: this is its phone with the longest-lasting battery so far. Globally, the Nothing Phone 4b carries a 5,200mAh cell rated for up to 22 hours of continuous video streaming, while another variant increases that to 6,000mAh. The company surrounds that pitch with a familiar formula: a 120Hz OLED panel, Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, and the signature rear lighting system. It slots between the earlier Lite and (4a) models, launching at €330/£300/₹35,000 with 8/128GB as the main configuration, and an 8/256GB option at ₹39,000 in one market. On paper, this is long-lasting, stylish and reasonably priced. The problem is that the story around repairability does not match the same level of clarity.

Battery life is a selling point, not a repair plan
Nothing’s marketing leans heavily on the battery as the core promise. One variant of the Nothing Phone 4b includes a 6,000mAh battery, making it one of the largest capacities in the company’s lineup, while the global model’s 5,200mAh pack is framed as enough for serious streaming and everyday grind. The device supports 33W wired charging and 7.5W reverse charging, pushing the idea of all-day power plus the ability to top up accessories. According to one launch write-up, “the biggest highlight is the battery”, and the phone targets users who prioritise extended battery life for gaming, streaming and productivity.
For ordinary users, this is attractive: fewer charging stops and less anxiety over screen-on time. But battery size is a short-term comfort, not a long-term repair strategy. Any lithium-ion cell will degrade; the real test of longevity is how easily and affordably that battery can be replaced several years in. Right now, the conversation around the Nothing Phone 4b battery focuses on hours of video playback and capacity bragging rights, not on how those batteries will be swapped when their health drops.

The repairability backlash: aesthetics versus access
The launch quickly shifted from specs to a sharper question: is the Nothing Phone 4b’s design helping or hurting long-term repairability? Fairphone, a brand built on modular, repair-friendly hardware, publicly criticised Nothing’s approach, questioning whether the visible, hardware-inspired elements were meaningful engineering choices or mostly visual flair. That criticism sparked a wider debate over smartphone repairability design and whether the industry is turning it into a style, not a commitment.
The Phone 4b continues Nothing’s transparent-inspired back and introduces a redesigned Glyph Bar with new lighting zones for notifications and timers. It looks distinctive in a crowded mid-range field, but critics argue that some manufacturers “may be adopting repairability aesthetics without fully embracing modular designs”. In other words, exposed screws, layered components and light bars might hint at openness, yet say little about how quickly a technician can replace a battery, camera module or display, or what it will cost over the device’s lifetime. For a phone marketed on practicality and longevity, that tension is hard to ignore.

Value, pricing pressure and the missing repair story
Nothing is sending the Phone 4b into a tough mid-range market where buyers weigh hardware against long-term value, software support and ownership costs. Positioned below the (4a) and above the Lite model, it lands at €330/£300/₹35,000, with the reference devices at €250/£250 and €350/£380/₹40,000 respectively. The 4b offers Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 power, LPDDR4X RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 120Hz OLED panel. That looks reasonable against rivals in the same bracket.
But long-term value is not defined at checkout. Consumers paying this kind of money now compare not only CPUs and refresh rates, but also how many years of reliable use they can expect, and what happens when something breaks. On that front, the Nothing Phone 4b story feels unfinished. There is a clear narrative about battery endurance and design personality, yet far less clarity about parts access, repair paths or how its construction supports repairs over time. When a brand builds its identity on transparency and practicality, silence on these details speaks loudly.
Longevity needs more than milliamp-hours
The Nothing Phone 4b shows how easy it is for modern phones to confuse longevity with endurance. Endurance is the 6,000mAh headline, the 22-hour streaming claim, the big numbers that look impressive at launch. Longevity is what happens in year three, when the battery health dips, a drop cracks the OLED, or the Glyph Bar misbehaves. On that second front, the Phone 4b is riding on implication rather than detail.
A repair-friendly smartphone design requires more than a transparent back and a memorable light show. It needs clear information about how parts can be replaced, how designs avoid locking components together, and how independent repair shops will be supported. The current backlash shows that enthusiasts and buyers are no longer swayed by repair-like aesthetics alone. If Nothing wants the 4b to stand for durability rather than disposability, it will have to talk less about battery size and more about what happens when that big battery, and everything around it, inevitably wears out.
