Milestone Systems and Airbus Defence and Space are both extending their core platforms in this direction, signalling that cloud security platforms are shifting from basic video or voice services to integrated operational systems that track people, assets, and events across on-premises and cloud sites. These advances aim to reduce blind spots between control rooms and field teams, using location intelligence, browser-based management, and more granular administrative roles. Together, the new releases show how video management and mission-critical communications are converging into shared, data-rich environments where security teams, dispatchers, and managers can act on the same information at the same time, regardless of where they are connected from.
Milestone XProtect 2026 R1 turns system data into operational insight
Milestone Systems’ XProtect 2026 R1 focuses on turning video platform telemetry into insight while extending cloud flexibility. A central change is the expansion of XProtect Remote Manager, a browser-based tool for Milestone Care Plus customers that now supports customizable, scheduled reporting. It automatically converts health metrics, performance indicators, maintenance activity, and inventory status into visual reports for administrators, decision-makers, service providers, and end customers. This reduces manual reporting and supports data-driven service levels across large deployments. According to Milestone Systems, XProtect 2026 R1 also adds a redesigned LogServer with centralized log visibility, better filtering, and more efficient workflows for troubleshooting complex environments. A Mobile Client “What’s New Archive” helps operators keep up with feature changes, while Device Pack 14.1 increases verified compatibility to over 16,300 devices, improving deployment choice without locking users into specific hardware.
Arcules updates push camera-to-cloud and long-term cloud retention
Alongside XProtect, Milestone is expanding its cloud-native video platform Arcules, strengthening its position as a cloud security platform for distributed enterprises. Recent updates extend camera-to-cloud support to Axis multi-sensor and selected i-PRO cameras, allowing multiple views to stream directly to the cloud with no additional on-premises servers or gateways. This simplifies architecture for high-coverage sites, where many sensors previously required local recorders. Arcules also introduces long-term cloud video storage so organisations can archive video for extended periods while keeping it searchable and accessible, supporting compliance and incident review without local storage sprawl. Combined, these enhancements show an enterprise software expansion strategy that prioritises cloud scalability over hardware-heavy designs, while keeping real-time control and mobile usability in focus for operators who need to move between sites and devices without losing visibility.
Airbus Agnet Extensions add geolocation features and team management tools
Airbus Defence and Space is taking a modular approach with Agnet Extensions, a portfolio of optional feature packs for its Agnet MCX mission-critical communications platform. Due for commercial release in the third quarter of 2026, the first two packs target everyday team management tools and advanced geolocation features. The Agnet Settings Pack introduces predefined text messages to speed up common communications, plus up to five custom attributes per contact, such as roles, certifications, or qualifications, to enable faster, more precise searches. It also adds a mobile administrative role so authorised field users can create and manage talk groups outside the control room, and supports static map overlays for richer geographic context. Thibaut Faivre from Airbus Defence and Space said Agnet Extensions give customers “a flexible way… to enrich their Agnet experience with capabilities that address specific operational challenges.”
Advanced geolocation and situational awareness for cross-agency operations
The Agnet Advanced Geolocation package is designed to deepen situational awareness in demanding environments, including areas where GPS signals fail. Centralised geofencing lets dispatchers define operational zones and trigger automatic notifications or talk-group changes when users enter or leave these areas, aligning communications with the live situation on the ground. For tunnels, underground transit, and other GPS-denied spaces, Cell ID positioning uses mobile network signals to estimate user locations, keeping the operational picture intact when satellite data is not available. Dynamic map overlays further enrich the view for dispatchers, while cross-organisation geolocation sharing helps multiple agencies coordinate during large-scale incidents. Together with Milestone’s cloud-native video and reporting advances, these capabilities point to a broader shift: mission-critical platforms are becoming shared environments that blend location intelligence, collaboration, and security into a single operational view.
