It targets everyday computing rather than heavy creative or gaming workloads, aiming to fix long‑standing complaints about slow, noisy, and short‑lived budget laptop processor options. Announced around Computex, Snapdragon C is pitched for students, families, and small businesses that mostly rely on web browsing, streaming, video calls, and office apps. According to Qualcomm, the platform is meant to deliver “responsive performance, cool, quiet designs and… all-day battery life in entry-tier laptops targeting $300 and up.” Positioned against low-cost x86 laptops and entry devices influenced by Apple’s MacBook Neo, Snapdragon C attempts to make ARM-based efficiency and modern AI features standard at lower prices.

Inside the Snapdragon C: 6nm ARM Design and AI Engine
Snapdragon C is built on a 6nm process and uses an eight‑core CPU in a 1+3+4 layout, pairing one high‑performance core with three mid‑tier and four efficiency cores. This big.LITTLE-style configuration, based on Qualcomm’s Kryo design and Arm Cortex cores, comes from years of phone and tablet SoCs, now adapted for laptops. An Adreno GPU clocked at 900MHz and LPDDR5 memory support round out the platform, aiming to keep interfaces smooth while staying frugal with power. A key differentiator is the integrated on-device AI engine: a dedicated NPU that can run lighter AI workloads locally instead of sending everything to the cloud. While it is not powerful enough for Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC label, it should still support Windows 11 AI features and app-level enhancements, bringing basic AI acceleration to machines that would normally lack that hardware.

At the same time, the chip is not aimed at heavy AI model training or large generative workloads; those will still depend on cloud services or higher-end Copilot+ PCs. Qualcomm is leaning on its smartphone heritage to differentiate Snapdragon C from traditional entry-level x86 chips that often run hot and drain batteries quickly. RM2,300) for students, has raised expectations about how efficient and capable lower-cost laptops should be. At the same time, Intel is preparing its Core 3 Series “Wildcat Lake” chips for similar price levels, and Google-aligned devices are also vying for budget buyers. Snapdragon C answers by bringing ARM-based efficiency and AI to affordable Windows laptops expected to start around US$300 (approx. RM1,380). Several OEMs, including Acer, HP, and Lenovo, are already planning devices, such as Acer’s Aspire Go 15. If real-world performance matches Qualcomm’s claims, Snapdragon C could give buyers a more modern alternative to aging Intel and AMD budget platforms, while putting fresh pressure on Chromebooks and other entry systems.
