Z Fold 8 Wide vs Ultra: A Reversed Durability Hierarchy
The Z Fold 8 wide model breaks the usual flagship pattern by offering a thicker UTG layer than the Z Fold 8 Ultra. According to ZDNET Korea, the Z Fold 8 wide’s inner display glass is 60μm thick, “30 per cent thicker than the ultra-thin-glass on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.” The Ultra, by contrast, is reported to use 45μm UTG, matching the current Z Fold 7. That makes the mid-position wide model the one with the more protective inner display glass, while the Ultra leans toward a thinner profile and likely more flexibility. This split allows Samsung to differentiate not only on screen size and aspect ratio—taller Ultra versus passport-style wide—but also on inner display protection, giving buyers a clearer choice between maximum thinness and enhanced inner display protection.
Three Models, Three Durability Profiles
This generation effectively creates a three-tier durability story: the legacy Z Fold 7 at 45μm, the Z Fold 8 Ultra also at 45μm, and the Z Fold 8 wide stepping up to 60μm.
