Budget 5G Phones Are Getting Flagship-Like Upgrades
The latest wave of budget 5G phones from Vivo shows how quickly premium features are trickling down to lower price tiers. The newly launched Vivo Y60 pairs 5G connectivity with a 120Hz display and an extra-large 6,500mAh battery—specifications that until recently were mostly reserved for mid-range and even flagship devices. At the same time, the Vivo V70 Lite 5G and Vivo Y05e are appearing across multiple certification platforms, signalling that Vivo is preparing a broader push of affordable 5G smartphones with modern specs. As 120Hz display and battery combinations above 5,000mAh become more common in the entry segment, brands like Vivo are reshaping what buyers can reasonably expect from a budget 5G phone. That raises an obvious question for the industry: if entry-level devices already deliver smooth screens and multi-day endurance, how do mid-range phones justify their higher positioning?

Vivo Y60 Specs: 120Hz Display, 6,500mAh Battery and IP65 Durability
The Vivo Y60 is a clear showcase of how aggressively Vivo is upgrading its budget 5G lineup. The phone features a 6.74-inch LCD panel with a 1600 x 720 resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio and support for up to a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother scrolling and gaming than typical 60Hz budget displays. Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A standout spec is the 6,500mAh battery, which supports 15W charging and even reverse charging to top up other devices. The Y60 also brings an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance plus SGS five-star drop and shock resistance certification, pushing durability standards higher in the budget space. Software-wise, it runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16, rounding out a surprisingly premium feature set.
V70 Lite 5G and Y05e: Certifications Hint at More Affordable 5G Options
While the Y60 is already official, the Vivo V70 Lite 5G and Vivo Y05e are still moving through certification, offering clues about Vivo’s next budget launches. The V70 Lite 5G has appeared on TDRA, Bluetooth SIG, Nemko and Google Play Console databases with multiple model numbers, and is tipped to use a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 or possibly Dimensity 7360 chipset with 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Listings reference Android 15 and Android 16 support, suggesting a relatively future-proof software roadmap for an affordable 5G smartphone. Interestingly, model codes link the device to the existing Vivo V60 Lite 5G, fuelling speculation that the V70 Lite 5G could be a rebrand with refreshed internals. Alongside it, the Vivo Y05e has surfaced with a 5,050mAh battery and OriginOS 6, indicating that large battery capacities are becoming standard even in lower-cost LTE-focused models.

How Vivo’s Budget Strategy Challenges the Mid-Range Market
By fitting the Vivo Y60 with a 120Hz display, 6,500mAh battery, IP65 rating and OriginOS 6 on top of Android 16, Vivo is collapsing the feature gap between budget and mid-range devices. The upcoming V70 Lite 5G, expected to use a Dimensity 7300/7360 class chipset and up to 12GB of RAM, hints that performance and memory headroom will also improve in the affordable 5G tier. With the Y05e’s 5,050mAh battery reinforcing this shift, Vivo is effectively making long battery life and smooth displays baseline expectations. For consumers, this raises the value bar: buyers may now demand at least a 120Hz display and 5,000mAh+ battery when shopping for budget 5G phones. For competing brands, it forces a rethink of mid-range positioning, which will increasingly need to differentiate through better cameras, higher-resolution panels, faster charging or advanced software features rather than just core hardware specs.
