Inside this enclave, Meta’s Muse Spark model processes your request, but the prompts and replies never enter the company’s standard server stack in readable form. Meta describes this as running a “giant phone for AI” without having the passcode. Relay routing, remote attestation, and stateless handling connect your device to the enclave, then scrub session data after each exchange. The result is a tighter model than conventional temporary-chat modes, which may hide history from you but often leave conversation logs on the provider’s servers for months.
Ephemeral by Design: No Server-Side Logs, No Chat History
A core promise of Incognito Chat is that conversations leave no lasting trail on Meta’s servers. Meta characterizes this as its first major AI product with no server-side logs of prompts and replies. Messages are ephemeral by default: once you end the session, close the app, or lock your phone, the conversation context is wiped from the enclave. Nothing from that exchange is stored in your WhatsApp chat history or in a readable backend log. This is different from disappearing messages that primarily affect what you see on your device. Here, the technical design aims to keep Meta itself from retaining or later reloading your Incognito Chat transcripts. Incognito Chat does not start from scratch: it rides on WhatsApp’s existing Private Processing technology, which was created to process certain features in a more privacy-preserving way. In this model, your encrypted request is handled within a tightly locked environment that is separated from Meta’s broader infrastructure. The company says this keeps prompts away from ordinary backend systems and out of readable logs, while still allowing powerful cloud models to run. For users, the experience remains familiar—just another WhatsApp or Meta AI chat—but the processing path under the surface is different and more constrained. This approach is Meta’s attempt to reconcile two competing demands: large-scale compute in the cloud and privacy properties closer to what people expect from end-to-end encrypted messaging on their own devices.
No Training on Your Chats—and What’s Coming Next
Crucially, Incognito Chat conversations are isolated from Meta’s AI training data. Because prompts and replies are kept out of normal server logs and processed inside a confidential computing enclave, they cannot be fed back into the system to improve Meta’s models. That distinguishes Incognito Chat from many generative AI tools that reserve the right to reuse your queries. At launch, the feature is text-only, with image processing and voice support still in development.
