What Google Meet’s smarter AI note-taker does now
Google Meet’s upgraded AI note-taker is a meeting note automation feature that records discussions, organizes them into structured sections, and highlights decisions so teams can review outcomes without replaying the entire meeting. Instead of relying on manual note-taking or scattered chat messages, the “Take notes for me” feature creates a consistent, shareable record of what was said, what was agreed, and what happens next. The latest update focuses on clarity and control: users can decide which sections to capture, while the system keeps notes concise and easy to scan. This makes the AI meeting assistant more than a simple transcription tool; it becomes a structured documentation system aligned with how teams plan, decide, and follow up. With clearer summaries and decision tracking tools, Google Meet AI notes aim to turn every call into an actionable record.

Customizable sections put users in control of AI notes
The most visible change to Google Meet AI notes is granular control over what gets captured. During a call, users can open the in-call menu and toggle four sections on or off: Summary, Decisions, Next Steps, and Details. These settings apply only to the current meeting, so you can tailor the structure for a quick check-in without affecting your next long planning session. The Summary section has been refined to be more concise and scannable, which makes it easier for late joiners or absent teammates to catch up. By trimming unnecessary detail while preserving structure, the AI meeting assistant reduces the noise that often creeps into automated notes. This balance between automation and manual control helps teams avoid bloated documents while still benefiting from consistent, structured capture of discussions.

Decision tracking tools clarify outcomes and open questions
The new Decisions section is the standout addition for teams that struggle to remember what was actually agreed. Instead of a flat list of topics, the AI note-taker now applies explicit status labels to each decision: Aligned, Needs Further Discussion, Disagreed, and Shelved. This gives every meeting a clear decision log, so stakeholders can see what is settled and what remains open without combing through paragraphs of text. According to Google Workspace, “our new ‘Decisions’ tracker helps you categorize outcomes like Aligned or Needs Further Discussion so nothing falls through.” For now, the Decisions section is only available in English, but the structured approach already makes Google Meet AI notes more actionable. Paired with the Next Steps section, these decision tracking tools help teams convert conversations into accountable follow-ups.
Reducing post-meeting work and fitting into Google Workspace AI
By structuring notes in real time, Google Meet’s AI meeting assistant cuts down on the tedious work that usually happens after a call. Participants no longer need to merge scattered notes, clarify outcomes, or reformat documents: summaries, decisions, next steps, and details are generated automatically based on the meeting flow and the toggles selected. This aligns with Google’s broader effort to build AI into Google Workspace so meetings become more productive and actionable. The feature is available to Enterprise Standard and Plus, Business Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education customers, along with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. For these users, Google Meet AI notes serve as a connective layer across tools, helping teams move from discussion to execution with clearer records and lower administrative overhead.
