Safari’s upcoming AI tab organization feature is Apple’s most ambitious attempt yet to fix the cluttered-browser problem. When Tab Groups first arrived in Safari 15, they gave users a way to manually separate work, travel, research, and personal browsing. Useful, yes—but they still depended on you to remember to sort everything. In Safari 27, Apple is layering automation on top of that system. A new Organize Tabs option appears in the center-top control used to switch between tab collections in test builds of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Instead of creating every group yourself, you’ll be able to let Safari automatically cluster related pages, turning sprawling, chaotic sessions into structured sets of topic-based tabs with far less effort.
How Safari’s AI Tab Organization Works
In internal Safari 27 builds, tapping the Organize Tabs button lets you switch on automatic grouping. Once enabled, Safari explains that “tabs will group into topics you browse,” hinting at what’s happening behind the scenes. The feature uses machine learning to parse the content of each page—titles, text, and other signals—and infer how tabs relate to one another in real time. If you’re juggling product research, news reading, and trip planning, Safari can detect those distinct themes and cluster tabs into logical collections without any manual dragging or naming. Apple hasn’t explicitly labeled this as an Apple Intelligence capability yet, but its behavior mirrors other AI browser features and even Apple’s own Reminders app, which can auto-categorize items in a shopping list based on their type.
