Microsoft is turning Edge for Business into a hub for agentic browsing—where AI doesn’t just respond, it acts. In a limited preview, Copilot can now autonomously navigate approved sites, fill forms, and complete multi-step workflows directly in the browser. This targets classic browser drudgery: repetitive navigation, copying data between tabs, and routine transactions. Crucially for IT, this is not a free-for-all agent. Agentic browsing is enabled through a dedicated policy, scoped to specific domains, and wrapped in Microsoft Purview data protection. Visual cues signal when Copilot is taking action, and users can pause or stop it, while high-risk steps such as password or payment entry still require human input. The result is a managed enterprise AI agent that operates inside the browser, giving organizations a safe way to trial autonomous workflows without ceding control of data or compliance.
A Copilot-Inspired Start Page Becomes the Work Control Center
Edge for Business is also reshaping the humble new tab page into a work dashboard tightly integrated with Copilot. Instead of a blank search bar and scattered links, users now see calendar events, recent Microsoft 365 files, and suggested AI prompts in one consolidated view. An intelligent entry box supports both search and chat, creating a single interface to query the web, internal content, or Copilot. Work cards highlight upcoming meetings and key documents, helping users jump directly into preparation or follow-up without hunting across apps. On both desktop and mobile, this start page reduces context switching and makes AI assistance a default part of opening the browser, not a separate destination. For organizations with Microsoft 365 Copilot, the experience becomes more personalized, turning each new tab into an adaptive launchpad for daily tasks and decisions.
Multi-Tab Reasoning and YouTube Summaries Extend to Mobile
Edge’s multi-tab reasoning and YouTube summarization, previously desktop-focused, now follow workers onto mobile devices. Multi-tab reasoning lets Copilot analyze all open tabs at once to generate summaries, comparisons, and synthesized insights. Employees can line up vendor pages, product specs, or policy documents and ask the browser to extract differences or key points, instead of manually cross-referencing each tab. On the media side, YouTube summarization condenses long videos—such as demos, webinars, or industry talks—into concise takeaways and can answer follow-up questions about the content. Because these capabilities are delivered through Edge for Business, Purview policies still govern which information is included, excluding sensitive content from reasoning where required. Extending these tools to mobile means multi-tab reasoning and quick video insights are now available for workers who research, decide, and approve on the move, not just at their desks.
Edge for Business as the Foundation for Enterprise AI Agents
Behind these features is a clear strategic move: position Edge for Business as the foundational layer for enterprise AI agents. Agentic browsing, multi-tab reasoning, and embedded Copilot all sit atop an IT-managed system of controls, including policy-based enablement, tenant-aware protections, and inline data loss prevention via Microsoft Purview.
