What Pokémon Champions Is and What the Mobile Launch Changes
Pokémon Champions is a standalone, battle-focused Pokémon game built as a streamlined arena for competitive play, replacing story-driven exploration with turn-based team battles designed around official Video Game Championships rules. Following an initial debut on Nintendo Switch systems in April, the game is now available on iOS and Android, expanding its reach to mobile players. The mobile version keeps the same core experience: standard typing interactions, movesets, and team synergy, framed around a free-to-start model. Trainers customize their avatars and use an Omni Ring to trigger Mega Evolution, making battle decisions the main focus. Because the new launch supports full cross-play support across Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, mobile players enter the same matchmaking pool and meta as console users, with progression and competition aligned across platforms.

Full Cross-Play Support and Competitive Modes on Mobile
On mobile, Pokémon Champions mirrors the competitive structure available on Nintendo Switch hardware, giving players access to Ranked Battles, Casual Battles, and Private Battles from day one. These modes cover both Single Battles and the official VGC-style Double Battle format, making phones and tablets a practical way to practice tournament-ready teams. Because the game launched on iOS and Android with full cross-platform play out of the box, iPhone, iPad, and Android users can immediately face off against Nintendo Switch players without separate queues or rule differences. This shared environment matters for competitive integrity: everyone plays under the same Regulation Set, sees the same Pokémon pool, and chases the same ladder in the ranked battles season. For console and future PC users, the mobile release mainly adds flexibility, letting them keep up with seasons and events away from their main device.

Inside Regulation Set M-B: New Pokémon, Megas, and Items
Regulation Set M-B is the first major ruleset refresh for Pokémon Champions and lands alongside the mobile debut, reshaping the competitive meta for all platforms. Running from June 17 through September 2 and covering at least Season M-3, it adds 38 newly usable Pokémon and 15 new held items, the largest content drop since launch. The roster update includes 16 new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Barbaracle, Mega Blaziken, Mega Metagross, Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert, Mega Staraptor, and twin forms Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. Some Megas, like Mega Feraligatr, Mega Meganium, and Mega Emboar, originate from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, further diversifying team options. According to ComicBook Gaming, Mega Eelektross and Mega Pyroar introduce abilities not previously available in Pokémon Champions, giving theorycrafters new tools to explore and counterplay to learn.
Battle Pass and Ranked Battles Season M-3
Regulation Set M-B launches with Season M-3, a new ranked battles season that runs from June 17 to July 8. This season, and likely a few that follow, will all use Regulation Set M-B, so early ladder climbs will help define the emerging meta. A new Battle Pass sits at the center of progression. The Premium Battle Pass offers Eelektross and Metagross as featured rewards, along with their respective Mega Stones, cosmetic items in the Canari Outfit Set, and Teammate and Training tickets. The free Battle Pass path focuses on Starmie, its Mega Stone, and a mix of VP, Quick Coupons, and more Teammate and Training tickets. Because these rewards are tied to matches rather than platform, mobile players starting now can keep pace with established Switch competitors throughout the season.
Free Launch Rewards and Why Now Is the Best Time to Start
To mark both the mobile launch and Regulation Set M-B, The Pokémon Company has opened a global in-game campaign. From now until September 2, 2026, anyone who logs into Pokémon Champions and checks their in-game mailbox can claim a free Raichu. The gift also includes two exclusive Mega Stones, Raichunite X and Raichunite Y, which unlock Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y forms tailored to the new meta. A separate campaign window running from Wednesday, June 17 to Tuesday, September 1 at 6:49 p.m. PDT also lets players receive Raichu with a Raichunite X or Raichunite Y via the in-game mailbox across both Switch and mobile versions. With the competitive environment being reshuffled at the same time as the platform expansion, new and returning players alike are entering a ladder where early matchups feel fresh and experimental.
