HONOR’s Magic V6 pushes the ultra-thin smartphone idea further than most rivals. Unfolded, the body is only 4.0mm thick, and it measures 8.75mm when closed, while weighing 219g. That puts it in the same comfort zone as many bar-style flagships despite housing a 7.95-inch inner display and a 6.52-inch outer screen. HONOR backs this thin frame with durability features usually missing from early foldables. The Super Steel Hinge reaches 2800MPa shield strength and is SGS-certified for 500,000 folds, and the chassis is protected by an Anti-Scratch NanoCrystal Shield plus dual IP68 and IP69 ratings. According to PCTech Magazine, “the Magic V6 steps into the foldable market with a bold pitch: be thinner than many slab flagships while staying tough enough for daily life.” The result is a foldable that tries to reduce thickness anxiety without sacrificing toughness.
Xiaomi’s widescreen foldable signals a new book-style push
While HONOR chases thinness, Xiaomi is preparing a widescreen foldable that leans into the book-style strategy. HyperOS code hints at a new device with a wider inner aspect ratio, departing from the tall, narrow shapes of earlier Mix Fold models. Xiaomi even skipped a direct Mix Fold 4 successor, suggesting it wants a clean break for this form factor. Enthusiasts noticed that the leaked interface aligns neatly with renders of Huawei’s Pura X Max, reinforcing the idea of a compact tablet-like canvas when opened and a more normal-feeling phone when closed. Reports say the unnamed model, possibly the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 or Xiaomi 18 Fold, will use a triple-camera system co-developed with Leica, potentially led by a 200MP main sensor and powered by Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 chipset. This approach prioritizes widescreen foldable usability and in-house silicon over dramatic changes in thickness.
Vivo X Fold 6: widescreen display plus serious multitasking software
Vivo’s X Fold 6 reinforces the widescreen foldable trend on the software side. The device is rumored to feature an 8-inch inner display and a 6.51-inch cover screen, backed by a 6,900mAh battery and a Dimensity 9500 processor. On top of that hardware sits OriginOS 6 Fold, which introduces Parallel Mode and Atomic Workbench. Vivo says Parallel Mode lets users run up to four apps at the same time on a single screen, with all windows staying active in the foreground. In demonstrations, the X Fold 6 even runs four AI assistants simultaneously through Atomic Workbench. More practically, the same framework allows four normal apps to stay live for complex workflows, like email, chat, browser, and notes all visible together. This turns the widescreen inner panel into a portable desktop, using foldable display technology to boost productivity rather than just media playback.
Samsung’s refinements and the two paths for future foldables
Details on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 remain limited, but expectations point to careful refinements rather than radical redesigns: slimmer frames, lighter hinges, and more durable foldable display technology. In this context, Samsung’s work highlights how the market is settling into two main design strategies. One path is the ultra-thin, slab-style foldable, best represented by the HONOR Magic V6, which aims to match or beat regular phones in thickness and weight.
