They can also use /design to create, edit, and sync design projects directly inside the coding terminal, staying close to the repository context. On the other side, Claude Design can now push updated layouts and flows into Claude Code for implementation, with both tools staying in sync instead of trading static screenshots. Brand Systems, Canvas Editing, and Enterprise Controls
Alongside the integration, Anthropic is positioning Claude Design squarely as an AI design tool for enterprise teams. A new administrator role can define a shared design system—typography, colors, spacing, and components—that all projects inherit by default. As Anthropic describes it, Claude Design now “sticks to your design system across projects,” automatically validating outputs against brand rules before presenting them. Teams can import design systems from GitHub repos, existing design files, or raw uploads, turning scattered brand assets into a central source of truth. A refreshed canvas editor adds layout controls for dragging, resizing, and aligning elements, making it easier to polish AI‑generated screens instead of regenerating everything in chat. Token Costs: The Hidden Bottleneck in ‘Seamless’ Workflows
Anthropic says it has addressed earlier token inefficiencies and moved Claude Design into a shared usage pool with Claude Code, chat, and Cowork, removing separate caps. This makes usage easier to track, but it does not eliminate the core complaint: high token consumption. Designers report that this pattern persists. Alfie Martin, lead AI product designer at ABM Industries, warns that “token usage is expensive, and Claude Design uses a lot,” adding that it can take longer than manually editing components. Because every AI‑driven tweak burns context and generation tokens, teams become cautious about iterating through Claude. A Partial Fix for the Design-to-Code Handoff, Not a Full Rewrite
Anthropic’s overhaul directly targets one of the hardest parts of the design to code workflow: getting engineers and designers aligned without endless exports, redlines, and diff reviews. With synchronized design systems, repo‑aware Claude Code sessions, and a visual editor, the update trims many classic handoff steps. Yet both Anthropic’s own designers and external users suggest the change is incremental, not transformative.
