A familiar pattern: AM5 in the context of AMD history
Seen in isolation, AM5’s sunset with Zen 7 might feel abrupt. In the context of AMD’s history, it looks almost conservative. AM4 carried Zen 1 through Zen 3 and a wide range of desktop and APU families before finally giving way to AM5. AM5 has followed the same playbook: launch with a new memory standard (DDR5), then ride that standard through several architectures until enough changes pile up to warrant a new socket.
