In recent lab validation, Samsung’s fully software-driven vRAN, paired with Qualcomm’s Dragonwing FWA Gen 4 platform using the X85 Modem-RF chipset, demonstrated how PC1 can dramatically extend the usefulness of FWA. Power Class defines how strongly a device can transmit; the lower the class number, the higher the output. By implementing PC1, the test achieved up to 10 times higher uplink throughput performance at the cell edge versus the PC1.5 standard. It also enables operators to serve more subscribers per site while maintaining quality, especially in low-signal areas and hard-to-reach corners of buildings.

Despite shipment volatility, industry dynamics favor continued expansion of 5G FWA as telecom-led demand drives the roadmap for CPE devices home broadband users rely on. In parallel, AI networking features are rapidly becoming a core differentiator in next-generation CPE. Short-term challenges such as memory shortages and shipment declines are being buffered by higher device value and more sophisticated planning, often underpinned by AI-driven supply chain optimization. At the same time, technical breakthroughs like PC1, validated on virtualized RAN architectures, are pushing uplink throughput performance to levels that comfortably support data-heavy home usage even in marginal coverage areas.
