AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency (ULL) is an enhanced DDR5 memory profile technology that stores detailed frequency, voltage, and advanced timing data on each module, allowing compatible motherboards to automatically apply lower-latency settings for higher gaming performance without manual overclocking or hardware changes. Compared with standard EXPO, the ULL revision adds secondary and tertiary memory timings on top of primary timings, improving overall latency behaviour. AMD states that EXPO ULL kits can raise average frame rates by around 4% across more than 30 tested games and also improve 1% low frame rates by about 4% in over 25 games when paired with a Ryzen 7 9700X processor. This rapid rollout shows AMD does not intend EXPO ULL to be exclusive to the newest chipsets, even if timelines for X870, X670, B850, and B650 boards remain uncertain for now.

The core appeal of AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency is a modest but measurable free FPS boost in DDR5 gaming performance. By expanding memory profiles to include more complete secondary and tertiary timings, ULL can tighten latency at a given frequency compared with standard EXPO settings. According to AMD, enabling EXPO ULL delivers about a 4% increase in average frame rates versus regular EXPO profiles and a similar 4% uplift in 1% lows across dozens of tested titles when running a Ryzen 7 9700X. That may sound small in isolation, but it effectively turns into a no‑cost optimization when supported hardware is already in place. The impact is strongest on CPUs that respond well to memory tuning, while 3D V‑Cache chips such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D see less benefit from faster RAM or tighter timings.
What You Need: BIOS Updates, AGESA Revisions, and Compatible DDR5
To use AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency, two conditions must be met: your motherboard needs a compatible BIOS, and your RAM must carry ULL‑enabled EXPO profiles. On the firmware side, vendors are shipping new BIOS builds based on recent AGESA ComboAM5 revisions, such as 1.3.0.1b on Asus X870E ROG Crosshair boards, which also improve overall DDR5 memory stability and support. Similar AGESA updates underpin the new X670E beta BIOS releases from Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. On the memory side, ULL profiles are baked into specific DDR5 kits from brands like G.Skill, Kingston, Klevv, Lexar, TeamGroup, V‑Color, Adata, and Origin Code, with wider availability expected around June. Standard EXPO kits and JEDEC‑only DIMMs will not suddenly gain ULL; the feature depends on the new profile data stored on the modules themselves.
How to Enable AMD EXPO ULL on Supported Motherboards
Once you have an updated BIOS and ULL‑capable DDR5 kit installed, enabling AMD EXPO Ultra Low Latency is similar to switching on a normal EXPO profile. First, back up your current settings, then flash the latest BIOS from your motherboard vendor that explicitly lists EXPO ULL or the relevant AGESA version. After rebooting, enter the UEFI setup and look for memory overclocking options under AI Tweaker, OC, or similar menus. Where available, you should see an EXPO ULL profile alongside standard EXPO modes; select it and save changes.
