3. Passwords App Auto-Updates Weak and Leaked Logins
For pure risk reduction, the upgraded Passwords app may be Apple’s single most important AI move. Built into Safari and powered by Apple Intelligence, it moves beyond flagging weak, reused, or breached passwords and can now fix them. During WWDC, Apple’s Beth Dakin said that “you can automatically update eligible accounts to strong passwords with just a tap,” and that the system can “agentically take action on your behalf.” When the Passwords app detects a compromised login, a blue button appears on its Security page. Tap it and Apple Intelligence works with Safari to sign in, move through the site’s password change flow, and upgrade credentials for supported services. Rounding out the list are quality-of-life upgrades for communication and the web. On-device dictation is improved, but Apple Intelligence goes further by surfacing timely prompts while you talk or text. If you are on a call with an airline, your flight details can appear in the Phone app; if someone texts a date, an “add to calendar” button shows up beneath the message. These nudges save taps without taking over the conversation. Safari’s new “Describe an Extension” feature is more experimental but intriguing. You explain in plain language what you want a site to do—such as a one-click way to save recipes—and Apple Intelligence generates a custom extension to handle it. This “vibe coding” approach will not matter to everyone, yet for power users and developers, it hints at a future where modifying the web is as easy as asking, and AI becomes a lightweight automation layer rather than a separate destination.
