Will Users Accept the Design Tradeoffs?
Early reactions show a gap between Snap Specs’ technical promise and their practical daily appeal. Reviewers who saw the devices at Augmented World Expo were not allowed to wear them, and the sight of the CEO’s ears visibly bent under the frames raised concern that smart glasses wearability remains unsolved. For a USD 2,195 (approx. RM10,350) device, comfort is more than a nice-to-have—it governs whether people will use AR beyond short demos. The Snap Specs design may be acceptable for 20-minute art pieces, guided tours or themed experiences where spectacle matters more than subtle fit. But as long as 132-gram frames visibly strain ears, it is hard to imagine them replacing everyday eyewear.
