Mocha Pro’s new AI-powered Point Track ML feature is an AI-based point tracking system built into Boris FX’s planar and mesh tracking toolkit to automate motion analysis on complex, deforming, and partially occluded surfaces that previously defeated traditional planar or 3D trackers, redefining how VFX artists approach cleanup, compositing, and detailed motion graphics work. In Mocha Pro 2026.5, this AI model runs alongside the familiar planar and PowerMesh trackers to create a hybrid motion tracking pipeline that plays to each system’s strengths. Point Track ML: From Impossible Shots to Reliable Point Tracks
Point Track ML is the headline upgrade in Mocha Pro’s VFX point tracking software, and it solves issues that have plagued artists for years. Traditional point trackers work frame by frame and can fail when hands cross a face, cloth creases sharply, or lighting changes mid-shot. The AI-powered motion tracking model in Point Track ML is trained to ignore occlusions, lighting shifts, and shadows, keeping points locked to their true surface over a whole sequence. According to Boris FX, the AI track is less affected when a surface goes out of shot or turns away from and back towards the camera, which was “previously impossible even with planar tracking.” Integrated into PowerMesh, this lets artists track skin, cloth, and other organic materials with far fewer breaks, enabling more confident warps, digital makeup, logo replacements, and subtle deformation work.
Cleaning Drifting Tracks and Refining Meshes with AI Assistance
Beyond raw tracking, Point Track ML reshapes cleanup workflows inside Mocha Pro’s AdjustTrack module. Previously, artists had to nudge each problematic point by hand when motion blur, fast camera moves, or changing reference points caused planar tracks to drift. Now Auto Nudge with Point Track ML detects drifting points and corrects them automatically, so surface tracks stay glued to their targets. A new Refine Mode provides higher-resolution analysis for stubborn areas, and users can add support grids or extra points where more detail is needed. The Curve Editor also gains the ability to view and edit PowerMesh keyframes per vertex, which makes fine-tuning mesh-based tracks more manageable. Smarter AI Masking for Faster Matte-Heavy Composites
Mocha Pro’s AI masking pipeline receives significant upgrades that matter directly to compositors. Object Brush, powered by Mask ML, now uses an Auto ROI (Region of Interest) to focus processing around the subject and generate finer edge detail, while artists can define custom ROIs for tricky regions. Refine Matte ML gains its own Auto ROI to clean background artefacts and “sparkles” in a single pass, cutting down on cleanup paint. Matte Assist ML introduces a Search Area tool that can target small, difficult regions with close-contour generation and keyframeable controls, improving temporal consistency on tight edges like hairlines or thin props. These improvements mean that AI-generated mattes require less manual roto to reach production quality. For teams, the combination of Mocha Pro AI tracking and enhanced masking tools shortens the path from rough isolation to compositable plates on high-end shots.
Pipeline Exports and Windows ARM Support for Studio Adoption
Mocha Pro 2026.5 also focuses on the less glamorous but vital details of pipeline fit and platform support. New export options allow artists to render shapes to RGBA along with the source clip, or generate separate layer mattes as multi-layer EXR files, including separating layers by colour channel. This aligns Mocha’s output with established compositing pipelines in tools like After Effects, Fusion, Nuke, and Flame.
