Deezer’s AI Music Detector Puts Listeners in the Loop
Deezer’s AI music detector brings AI-generated music detection directly to listeners by scanning playlists from more than 20 major streaming platforms and flagging which tracks are synthetic. The free online tool, available in 27 languages, requires users to connect their accounts and authorise a scan; results can then be viewed and shared with friends or on social media. According to Deezer, nearly 43% of users who join the platform from competing services already have AI-generated tracks in their playlists, even though its own research shows that 97% of people cannot reliably tell AI and human-made music apart. The same data shows that AI uploads are growing fast: Deezer receives around 75,000 AI-generated tracks daily, more than 44% of all uploads, making automated detection and clear labelling essential for both transparency and fair streaming economics.

From Detection to Artist Protection AI in Streaming Workflows
Under the hood, Deezer has turned its AI music detector into a piece of infrastructure that reshapes how streaming platforms handle synthetic content. Since early 2025, the company has used its artist protection AI to detect and tag more than 13.4 million AI-generated tracks and became the first major service to label AI music in mid-2025. Tagged songs are excluded from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, limiting their impact on royalty pools and chart positions. Deezer reports that fully AI-generated songs still make up only 1%–3% of streams, but as much as 85% of those streams in 2025 were linked to fraudulent manipulation and therefore excluded from royalty payments. The platform is also licensing its AI-generated music detection technology, which can recognise content from tools like Suno and Udio, signalling a move toward shared, cross-platform safeguards.
Warner Music’s Sureel Deal Extends Fingerprinting to AI Models
On the label side, Warner Music Group’s acquisition of Sureel AI shows how music fingerprinting technology is being extended into the world of generative models. Sureel’s patented system fingerprints songs and traces how AI models use their component elements, giving rights-holders insight into whether catalog recordings have been used in model training or in AI-generated tracks. Beyond audio, Sureel also tracks name, image, and likeness, including voice clones, avatars, and stylistic imitation, making it a broad artist protection AI platform. Warner says the deal strengthens its ability to both protect and monetise its catalogue as AI adoption grows, while Sureel will continue operating as a standalone service. The acquisition follows Warner’s earlier legal clashes and subsequent licences with AI music startups like Suno and Udio, showing a shift from case-by-case enforcement to systematic attribution and monitoring.

Building Shared Infrastructure for Rights, Royalties, and Transparency
Taken together, Deezer’s detection tools and Warner’s music fingerprinting technology point toward an emerging infrastructure layer that underpins AI-era music economics. Streaming platforms need reliable AI-generated music detection to keep recommendation systems fair, prevent fraud, and ensure artists are paid for genuine listening, while labels need deep attribution for how their catalogues feed AI models. Deezer’s participation in studies warning that up to 25% of creator revenues could be at risk by 2028 shows what is at stake if synthetic and fraudulent streams go unchecked. As Deezer licenses its detector and Warner scales Sureel’s attribution tools, they are building shared technical standards for identifying AI music, tracing training data, and labelling recommendations. This evolving ecosystem is likely to become as fundamental as traditional content ID systems, forming the basis for future licensing, enforcement, and transparency rules.
