At the centre is the HMND 01 Alpha, a wheeled humanoid designed for industrial use and built on NVIDIA’s physical AI stack. In logistics tasks such as picking, transporting and placing totes, the robot reportedly achieved 60 tote moves per hour, more than eight hours of uptime, and over 90 percent autonomous pick-and-place success. AWS–Neura and IL: Racing to Capture Industrial Robot Data

In China, Alibaba is framing physical AI as part of a broader contest in embodied intelligence, where AI systems must understand and act within the physical world. The company’s trademark applications around “Qwen Little Dimples”—covering AI-as-a-service, chatbot software and humanoid robots for research, assistance and entertainment—signal a strategy that stretches from conversational interfaces to physical interaction. Alibaba’s wider Qwen Micro initiative sits alongside tools like the HappyHorse video model, the HappyOyster world model and the Meoo developer platform, forming a stack for visual generation, world understanding and application development. Together, they hint at specialised models designed for robots and IoT devices that need lightweight yet capable intelligence. While details remain emerging, Alibaba Qwen Micro underscores how major tech players are building tailored AI brains for embodied systems, positioning themselves for the coming wave of household robots, smart appliances and service humanoids.

From Factory Floors to Robot Dogs: Benefits and Risks of Physical AI

The industrial race for physical AI will not stay confined to factories and fulfilment centres. As cloud-trained models and industrial robot data improve navigation, perception and safety, those capabilities will trickle down into consumer and security robots, including quadruped robot dogs and domestic assistants. Expect more reliable obstacle avoidance, safer human–robot collaboration and richer interaction, powered by shared intelligence across robot fleets. Yet this transition raises serious questions. Instrumenting more of the physical world means collecting detailed data about workplaces, homes and public spaces, amplifying privacy and security concerns. Companies must secure sensor logs, prevent misuse of shared models and ensure transparent governance. Job displacement is another tension point: while physical AI robots can address labour shortages and dangerous tasks, they could also automate roles in logistics, manufacturing and services. The physical AI arms race will be judged not just by technical breakthroughs, but by how responsibly this new embodied intelligence is deployed.
