The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 is expected to be Xiaomi’s next flagship large-screen foldable phone, combining a wide inner display, premium Leica-tuned cameras, and a self-developed O3 chipset with 5G and UWB connectivity to push the company’s foldable lineup further into the ultra-high-end segment. The clearest sign that this custom chip foldable phone launch is drawing near is the recent network certification of a Xiaomi device with model number 2608BPX34C, widely believed to be the Mix Fold 5. According to Igeekphone, this model has been registered for network access and supports the independent N79 5G band along with Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology. Network approval is a major regulatory step before sales can begin, so its completion points to a shorter countdown than many watchers expected.
Self-Developed Xianzhi/XRING O3 Chip: A Strategic Shift
The standout feature of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 is its in-house O3 processor, described as the Xianzhi O3 by Igeekphone and as the XRING O3 in Gizmochina’s reporting. In either case, Xiaomi is preparing to move its most expensive foldable off an exclusive reliance on Qualcomm Snapdragon flagships. Igeekphone reports that the Xuanji O3 is manufactured on TSMC’s 3 nm process and has overall performance “comparable to Snapdragon 8E5,” marking it as Xiaomi’s most powerful self-developed mobile chip so far. For the Mix Fold series, which previously used Snapdragon platforms, this change signals a new strategy: control over core silicon for performance, AI features, and power efficiency tuned specifically for large-screen foldables.
HyperOS 4 Debut and AI-Driven Software Ambitions
Beyond hardware, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 is tipped to carry big software significance as well. Multiple reports suggest it may be the first device to launch with HyperOS 4, rather than the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series. Gizmochina notes that the 2608BPX34C foldable has already appeared in certification records, while the Xiaomi 18 family has not, strengthening the case for a HyperOS 4 debut on the foldable. Igeekphone adds that HyperOS 4 system apps are being “empowered by AI technology,” and the platform is positioned as Xiaomi’s best AI interaction environment so far. Gizmochina further reports that HyperOS 4 is expected to include support for the miclaw AI agent, signaling a tighter integration between Xiaomi’s AI services and its own silicon inside this custom chip foldable.
Design Expectations, Pricing Talk and a Sooner-Than-Planned Launch
On the hardware design side, current leaks suggest the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 will adopt a wider inner display than the Mix Fold 4, reinforcing its role as Xiaomi’s first large-screen foldable flagship of this generation. Gizmochina mentions earlier reports of a 200-megapixel camera and a price that could be about 10% higher than the Mix Fold 4, which launched at 8,999 yuan (around USD 1,240, approx. RM5,880), putting the new model near 10,000 yuan (roughly USD 1,380, approx. RM6,550). That, plus Leica branding, would position it firmly in the ultra-premium tier. With network certification now granted and no sign yet of the Xiaomi 18 series on similar listings, the Mix Fold 5’s foldable phone launch window appears closer than original expectations, and the phone is likely to arrive sooner than many anticipated.
