Even in extreme cold of minus 30 degrees Celsius, the battery still reached 98% charge from 20% in nine minutes, underscoring its performance in real-world conditions. CATL also claims the battery will maintain over 90% of its capacity after 1,000 fast-charge cycles, addressing durability concerns that have long surrounded high-C-rate charging. This leap in ultra-fast EV charging performance also outpaces other recent high-profile announcements: rival technologies from Geely and BYD have been demonstrated with charging times of nine minutes and about five and a half minutes respectively, but CATL’s system edges them on total charge span and cold-weather resilience. While real-world rollout will depend heavily on automaker adoption and charger compatibility, the underlying message is clear: battery technology is advancing faster than the infrastructure around it, and the traditional notion of EV charging as a lengthy stop is rapidly being challenged.
