Stable One UI 8.5 Arrives on the Galaxy S25 Series
Samsung has finally begun rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update, based on Android 16, to the entire Galaxy S25 lineup after one of its longest beta programs yet. The update first went live on May 6 in Samsung’s home market, before quickly expanding to users elsewhere, including early adopters on Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra and S25 Edge. In many regions the firmware weighs in at around 4.4 GB and includes the April 2026 security patch, though exact build numbers vary by model and market. Beta testers are being migrated automatically to the stable channel as part of the Samsung update rollout. For most S25 users, this marks the first major post-launch platform upgrade, combining Android 16’s core changes with Samsung’s latest One UI features and Galaxy AI refinements.
New One UI 8.5 Features and Galaxy AI Upgrades
One UI 8.5 is less about a visual overhaul and more about polishing the overall experience. Samsung has reworked system animations so app launches, multitasking transitions and in-app scrolling feel smoother and more consistent. The lock screen gains enhanced live activities and an expanded Now Bar, making ongoing tasks like timers, navigation, music playback or sports tracking easier to monitor at a glance. Galaxy AI sits at the center of this release: users get expanded tools such as Call Screening, Agentic AI and Creative Studio, alongside upgraded image generation, a better Audio Eraser and sharper Bixby capabilities that were previously tied to newer hardware. System-wide natural language search means you can now search settings or Gallery photos using normal phrases, not exact keywords. Quick Share is also upgraded with AirDrop support, improving cross-platform file sharing.
Eligible Devices: From Galaxy S25 to Foldables and Tablets
While the One UI 8.5 update debuts on the Galaxy S25 Android 16 build, Samsung is extending it to a wide range of premium devices. The first wave centers on Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra and S25 Edge, with the Galaxy S25 FE planned once that model becomes available. Beyond the latest flagships, Samsung confirms support for the Galaxy S24 family, including the Galaxy S24 FE, as well as its newest foldable generations: Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. The software push also reaches larger screens via the Galaxy Tab S11 and Tab S10 series. Availability, however, may differ by region, carrier and specific model configuration, so some owners will see the Samsung One UI 8.5 rollout sooner than others even within the same product line.
Rollout Timeline and How to Check for the Update
Samsung says the One UI 8.5 rollout began on May 6 in its home market, with a broader wave following around May 11. From there, the Galaxy S25 One UI 8.5 update has been expanding across multiple regions, with users on S25 devices already reporting availability in several major markets. The company plans to continue this staged deployment through the rest of the month, adding the Galaxy S24 series, foldables and supported tablets as testing completes. If the update has not yet arrived on your device, you may simply be in a later phase of the Samsung update rollout. To check manually, open Settings, go to Software Update, and tap Download and install. Devices enrolled in the beta program will transition automatically to the stable build once it becomes available for their specific model and region.
