According to The New Stack, more than 1,000 Visa employees already use Replit for internal prototyping, giving Visa an in-house testbed for this integrated payment infrastructure. The collaboration is framed as a new context for existing Visa payment infrastructure rather than a brand-new product line, but the implications are significant: card payments become “native, secure and integrated directly into those experiences from the start,” in the words of Visa’s Rubail Birwadker, allowing teams to add commerce logic from day one instead of treating it as a late-stage integration step.

At the center of Visa’s approach is the Trusted Agent Protocol, a cryptographic identity layer designed for AI agents that need to perform autonomous transactions. The system operates as a public key distribution registry, where agents register identities and publish keys used for signature verification. Merchant and infrastructure endpoints can then verify that an AI agent initiating a payment is a known, Visa-approved actor acting on a user’s behalf, not an unknown script. For an agent to become “Visa-trusted,” it must pass Visa’s onboarding, approval, and certification processes before joining the registry. Replit is exploring how agents built on its platform can be enrolled, enabling AI workflow automation that includes secure payments to merchants and services. The companies are also testing machine-to-machine payment flows for low-value, high-frequency transactions, within guardrails built around consent, authentication, spending controls, and existing chargeback frameworks.

Reshaping Enterprise AI Workflow Automation

Embedding Visa payment infrastructure inside Replit changes the economics of AI workflow automation for enterprises. Today, many AI tools stop at recommendation or analysis, handing off to humans for final clicks on invoices, subscriptions, or purchases. With native payments, agents can autonomously handle recurring charges, pay-per-use APIs, or microservices fees, compressing multi-step business processes into single automated flows. More than 1,000 Visa employees using Replit already shows early enterprise adoption of this integrated layer, even if restricted to prototyping.
