What Google Information Agents Are and Why They Matter
Google Information Agents are AI-powered tools inside Google AI Mode that automatically track topics you care about, scanning the web for updates and sending you timely alerts without needing repeated manual searches. Instead of typing the same query over and over, you tell AI Mode what to follow—such as a film, sports event, or product—and an agent keeps watching for new information. Google says these agents look across blogs, news sites, social posts, and real-time data like finance, shopping, and sports to spot relevant changes. Updates appear in your AI Mode chat and as notifications in the Google app, turning Google Information Agents into something closer to a personalized news feed than a traditional search result page. This marks a shift in how search works: information flows to you, instead of you chasing it.

How Information Agents Work Inside Google AI Mode
To create a Google Information Agent, you start in Google Search, switch to Google AI Mode, and ask a natural-language question as if you were chatting with Gemini. After AI Mode answers, it may offer to keep you updated; if not, you can say something like “keep me updated on this” to spin up an agent. According to Lifehacker, once an agent is active, new updates appear as fresh entries in the same AI Mode conversation, and notifications also arrive in the Google app on your phone. If you delete the chat, the updates stop, since the history thread acts as the hub for that agent. You can even specify daily summaries at a certain time, which some users have found more reliable than real-time alerts for ongoing stories such as sports tournaments or big entertainment news.
From Manual Search to Proactive Information Delivery
Google Information Agents represent a move away from reactive search toward proactive information delivery. Think of them as a modern version of automated search alerts built directly into Google AI Mode. Once configured, an agent constantly scans the web so you do not need to remember to check back. Google gives examples like apartment hunting: you can list all your requirements, and the AI will monitor listings and notify you when something matches. Another example is sneaker releases, where an agent can spot new collaborations from your favorite athletes and send alerts when shoes are announced or go on sale. Android Authority reports that agents can track almost anything, from concert announcements to movie ticket on-sale dates, letting you stay informed about niche interests without camping on search results or setting up multiple manual reminders.
Pricing, AI Ultra Subscription, and Rollout Timeline
Right now, Information Agents are tightly linked to the AI Ultra subscription tier and Google AI Mode. Lifehacker notes that Google Information Agents are available to people on the Google AI Ultra subscription, which it describes as including plans at USD 99.99 (approx. RM460) or USD 199.99 (approx. RM920) per month, though Google has not yet detailed how the feature will arrive on lower-priced plans. Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, said on X that “Information agents in Search are now available in all AI Mode languages & markets for Google AI Ultra subscribers.” He also said Google will expand agents to more people in the summer, and Android Authority reports that AI Pro subscribers will likely be next in line. Over time, the company suggests that Search agents, including these automated information trackers, will reach a broader user base beyond the earliest paying subscribers.
