Core 200 Series on LGA 1700: Specs and Lineup Strategy
Raptor Lake Next desktop CPUs are expected to land under the Intel Core 200 series name, replacing the old Core i branding while keeping familiar silicon. Reports point to three main tiers: Core 7, Core 5, and Core 3, all built on the Intel 7 process and retaining Raptor Cove P-cores and Gracemont E-cores. A top Core 7 SKU is said to feature up to 20 cores (8P+12E) at 65W, while another configuration offers 16 cores (8P+8E) at 125W, clearly aimed at mainstream gaming and productivity builds. Core 5 fills the mid-range with 8+8 and 6+4 designs, and Core 3 scales down to four P-cores for entry-level systems. For existing LGA 1700 users, Raptor Lake Next looks less like a minor refresh and more like an unexpected upgrade path. Many gaming rigs built around 12th or 13th Gen chips can, in theory, drop in a Core 200 series CPU and continue using the same DDR4 modules and boards, sidestepping DDR5 supply and pricing issues. That means owners of older Core i5 or Core i7 parts can move up to configurations with up to 20 cores without rebuilding their system. New buyers also gain flexibility: start with DDR4 now for a lower-cost budget gaming CPU build, then migrate to DDR5 later on a compatible motherboard when prices and availability improve.
