What Zenless Zone Zero Season 3 and Version 3.0 Actually Are
Zenless Zone Zero season 3, also known as ZZZ version 3.0, is a major content and technology update that adds new areas, characters, and NVIDIA-powered visual upgrades while launching the game on Steam alongside its existing platforms. HoYoverse’s hack-and-slash ARPG is getting this update across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, Android, and PC. On PC, that now explicitly includes Steam, following nearly two years of availability only through HoYoPlay and the Epic Games Store. The update, titled “A Sleepwalker’s Confession,” rolls out after a five-hour maintenance window starting at 6 PM Eastern Time and goes live at 11 PM Eastern Time on June 16, crossing into June 17 for many regions. According to PC Guide, the launch means both returning players and new Steam users can access the same content at the same global release time.
Release Timing and Global Rollout for Season 3
The Zenless Zone Zero season 3 release is tightly tied to its Steam launch. Version 3.0 arrives on June 16 at 11 PM Eastern Time, which translates to a past-midnight rollout on June 17 in many territories, including London at 4 AM BST and Tokyo at 12 PM JST. Maintenance begins five hours earlier, at 6 PM Eastern Time, taking the servers offline before the game returns with the new build. PC Guide lists the exact local times for major cities, noting that players in cities such as Los Angeles (8 PM PDT) and Chicago (10 PM CDT) can start playing on the evening of June 16, while others will see the patch land the following calendar day. The update reaches every platform simultaneously, so console, mobile, and PC players—including Steam users—start ZZZ version 3.0 on equal footing.
DLSS 4.5, Ray Tracing, and NVIDIA’s Visual Overhaul
On PC, Zenless Zone Zero season 3 is as much a technology refresh as a content drop. Version 3.0 introduces DLSS 4.5 ray tracing features, with Nvidia confirming support for DLSS Super Resolution (upscaling) and DLSS Frame Generation. The update adds ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, and global illumination lighting, all accelerated by these DLSS tools. Nvidia’s recent comparison video highlights the effect in the new playable area Roscaelifer, where wet ground and detailed surfaces benefit from real-time reflections and lighting. Nvidia states that Multi Frame Generation is “planned for a future update,” though it has not given a date. While Steam Deck users may welcome the Steam launch, PC Guide notes that the handheld’s AMD hardware does not benefit natively from DLSS, and HoYoverse previously said Steam Deck optimization is not a current priority.
New Area, Characters, and Endgame Content in Version 3.0
Beyond DLSS 4.5 ray tracing upgrades, Zenless Zone Zero season 3 brings new gameplay content. The headline addition is Roscaelifer, a sky city designed to make strong use of the new ray tracing support, with its elevated streets and reflective surfaces highlighted in Nvidia’s comparison footage. Players also gain access to Phaethon combat avatar Pyrois as a free unlockable, expanding the roster without extra cost. Two new S-Rank Agents, Velina and Norma, arrive as paid banner characters, appearing in Phase 1 and Phase 2 respectively of the update cycle. PC Guide also notes a new free endgame mode, giving high-level players fresh activities once the main story and events are cleared. Together, these elements position ZZZ version 3.0 as both a visual upgrade and a substantial content milestone.
Why the Steam Launch Matters for Zenless Zone Zero
The Steam launch in June is a key part of the Zenless Zone Zero season 3 story. According to PC Guide, HoYoverse’s ARPG arrives on Steam on June 16, nearly two years after its original release on Epic Games Store and HoYoPlay. This means version 3.0 is many players’ first contact with the game, and they are meeting it in its most visually advanced form thanks to DLSS 4.5 ray tracing and frame generation support. The move to Steam also makes it easier to track updates, use the platform’s social features, and manage installs alongside other PC titles. While Steam Deck optimization is not a priority right now, desktop PC users with compatible NVIDIA GPUs gain a clear benefit, with higher frame rates and more advanced lighting in Roscaelifer and other areas of ZZZ version 3.0.
