These visual changes are client-side only: they are visible to the person who applies them, not to the contact on the other end. Multi-message forwarding fixes a basic RCS limitation
One of the most significant Google Messages updates is still hidden in beta code, but it tackles a long-standing frustration: the lack of multi-message forwarding. Today, forwarding is limited to one text or image at a time. Android Authority notes that users have been asking for a better option for years, especially compared to competitors like WhatsApp. In the latest open beta build, testers were able to enable a new workflow that allows selecting multiple texts and images, then using a three-dot overflow menu in the conversation header to choose a Forward option. This functionality is still a work in progress and not available in the stable app yet, but its presence in recent builds suggests Google is finally closing a basic feature gap.
Official help chat turns feature updates into a conversation
Beyond visual tweaks and forwarding, Google is preparing an official in-app help chat for Messages that uses RCS messaging features to guide users through new tools. Android Authority’s APK teardown of the open beta found references to an “official chat” that appears as a card at the top of the messages list, offering buttons to Accept or Reject an invitation. If a user accepts, Google Messages starts a new RCS conversation with what appears to be an AI-powered chatbot focused on the messenger’s latest features. Instead of passive, one-way broadcast updates, users will be able to ask questions and get more detail about recent changes, with the option to unsubscribe later if they are not interested. For now, the feature looks scoped to Messages itself, though Android Authority points out it could eventually cross-promote other Google apps. True customer support is not confirmed and remains speculative at this stage.
Catching up to competitors with practical, user-led features

The app already offers strong RCS messaging features, but until now it has lagged rivals on everyday conveniences like bulk forwarding and deep customization.
