Choosing the best laptop for students in Malaysia under RM3,500 comes down to three things: enough memory, a screen you can study on for hours, and paying no more than the brand's own price. If you only have a minute, our top three picks for 2026 are the HP Laptop AI 15, the HP Laptop 15 with 16GB of memory and the Apple MacBook Neo.
One thing surprised us: when we checked on September 22, every Lazada listing we found for these laptops was priced above the brand's official store or major retailers. So below, we list each laptop's official price and link to where it was cheapest. Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30, and 11.11 and 12.12 bring the platforms' biggest sales.
The list runs in two groups. First, four laptops with 16GB of memory — the amount we recommend for students who keep many tabs, documents and video calls open at once.
1. HP Laptop AI 15 (fd2117TU)

Around RM3,399 at HP Malaysia's store, with Office Home 2024 and a backpack included. It has the newest processor on this list, an Intel Core Ultra 5 225U with a built-in AI engine, plus 16GB of DDR5 memory, a 512GB SSD and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen. See it at HP Malaysia. The one to buy if you study programming or edit video lightly, and want a laptop that lasts through your degree.
2. HP Laptop 15 (fd0907TU)

Around RM2,799 at HP Malaysia's store, with Office Home 2024 and a backpack. An Intel Core 5 120U with 16GB of DDR5 memory, a 512GB SSD and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, and it charges to 50% in about 45 minutes. See it at HP Malaysia. The best value 16GB laptop here for everyday assignments and online classes.
3. ASUS Vivobook Go 15 (E1504F)

Around RM2,700 at Malaysian retailers for the 16GB version, with Office Home 2024. It runs an AMD Ryzen 5 40 — a renamed Ryzen 5 7520U — with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, and it is built to the MIL-STD 810H durability standard. The 15.6-inch screen is on the dim side at 250 nits. The Lazada listing we saw was about RM550 above retailers, so shop around. A tough laptop for students who carry it everywhere.
4. Apple MacBook Neo

Official price RM2,999 (256GB) and RM3,399 (512GB with Touch ID) since Apple's June price revision. It has 8GB of memory rather than 16GB, but Apple's A18 Pro chip, a sharp 13-inch display, up to 16 hours of video playback and a 1.23kg body make it the most portable pick here. It does not include Microsoft Office. See it at Apple Malaysia. Best for students who want long battery life and mostly write, browse and stream.
Next, three lower-cost laptops for students on a tighter budget.
5. HP OmniBook 3 14 (hy0059AU)

Around RM3,099 at HP Malaysia's store, with Office Home 2024 and a backpack. A light 1.42kg laptop with a 14-inch 1920×1200 screen — taller than usual, which helps when reading and writing — an AMD Ryzen 5 40 and a 512GB SSD. Note that its 8GB of memory cannot be upgraded. See it at HP Malaysia. A good carry-everywhere laptop for essays and research.
6. Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 (15AMN8)

Around RM2,399 at Malaysian retailers, with Office Home 2024. It runs an AMD Ryzen 3 30 — a renamed Ryzen 3 7320U — with 8GB of memory, a 512GB SSD, a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, a backlit keyboard and the biggest battery in this group at 47Wh. The Lazada listing we saw was about RM400 above that retail price. For students who mainly need documents, slides and online classes.
7. HP Laptop 15 (fc0585AU)

Around RM2,239 at HP Malaysia's store, with Office Home 2024. The cheapest laptop on this list pairs an AMD Ryzen 3 7320U with 8GB of memory, a 512GB SSD and a 15.6-inch Full HD screen, and HP rates it for up to 10.5 hours of battery life. See it at HP Malaysia. A sensible first laptop if your budget is tight.
When to buy
Three windows matter this season: 11.11 on November 11, Black Friday from November 27 to Cyber Monday on November 30, and 12.12 on December 12. For laptops, start with the brand's own store — HP and Apple both sell directly online in Malaysia and often include Office or a backpack — and only buy elsewhere when the price is clearly lower for the same model.
Frequently asked questions
Is 8GB of memory enough for a student laptop?
For documents, slides and online classes, yes. If you keep many browser tabs open, use Canva or do light video editing, 16GB will stay smooth for longer — and some 8GB laptops here cannot be upgraded later.
Do these laptops come with Microsoft Office?
The HP, ASUS and Lenovo laptops on this list come with Office Home 2024 and a year of Microsoft 365 Basic. The MacBook Neo does not include Office.
Are Ryzen 5 40 and Ryzen 3 30 new processors?
No. They are new names for the Ryzen 5 7520U and Ryzen 3 7320U, entry-level chips from 2023. They are fine for schoolwork, but not for gaming or heavy editing.
Why buy from the official store instead of a marketplace?
When we checked, the official stores were cheaper for every laptop on this list, and they include local warranty and bundled extras. Always compare the exact model number before you pay.
